Prince’s Lotus Flow3r Blooms At #2

princelotusflow3rcoverart

Prince’s new 3 cd set Lotus Flow3r debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 with about 168,000 sold, although Hits Magazine had Prince at number 1 with almost 20,000 more copies sold.  Keith Urban outsold Prince by 3,000 copies if the numbers stay the same.Hits numbers usually always differ from soundscan, which is what Billboard and the public go by.

We are wondering where those 20,000 copies went or were they not counted.  It is an impressive debut but if those 20,000 copies were sold, the CD should be at number 1.

Perhaps what Prince said about the music industry is true and then Bria Valente actually lost the bet….

Billboard is the gold standard. Let me say this; Lotus Flow3er is Prince’s best first week sales since 3121, which debuted at number 1 with over 180,000 sold.

The music industry is everchanging and Prince is still that dude challenging it, 25 years after his first number 1 album on Billboard.

Prince (and Bria), you may not have debuted at number 1 but you are number 1 with us.-Dr.FB

NOTE: Lotusflow3r debuted at #1 on the R n B charts and it is the #1 Indie Release.

Prince is #1 i don’t give a damn what the Billboard says…there is something very wrong with the sales count. I will be watching next week. Prince will take the #1 spot with an extraordinary sales count….and if that does happen that should tell us that trickery was “on hand”. Again, imo Prince and Bria #1 hands down!!!!

It’s all good considering it was sold using one retailer. Good to know it made #1 on the r&b charts and is the #1 Indie release.

    Right on Dr. F!

now, bring on the world tour where strictly the new material is performed in the main show and the aftershow is comprised of rarities from the past and experiemental jams.

That is still impressive given that the album was only sold at one outlet, where as the competition had various outlets.. My Lotusflow3r is #1 for me 🙂 Has anyone been able to listen to any other album for the past two weeks anyway?

I agree with kenni. They should go and have that bash to end all bashes anyways..! He absolutely DID send out a signal! I cannot say I know the ins and outs of the industry but too often I hear or read that it’s not the way it should be towards the artist ..(sigh)

Its still a good showing since it was only sold at Target. A lot of cities don’t have Target. Plus the margin wasn’t that big by only 3000. So actually Prince did beat Urban. Because he sold at one retail and still got a good amount of sells. So Prince still is the winner…. I feel he is number 1.

I am a little bummed that it wasnt #1 (which it should be) But I am proud that Prince is doing his own thing and still made it to the top…

Well 1st off, congratulations are in high order for Prince and Bria for selling as many albums as they sold in only one place, Target, a great store if I may add. Prince continues to do his own thing and does it successfully.

I am a HUGE Prince fan and as happy as I am to see this, I also wonder what more Prince could have done to be #1 on the charts. I don’t think charts matter in the end but business is business. I’m glad he did a commercial for Target and I hope they keep on playing it, but there’s more to be done. Now that Prince is an independant artist again, I think that he can’t keep on doing things as if he was in a major label. Without having the backing of a label, all the work in pushing a product is on the artist and if Prince wants to keep sales relatively high, or at least stay in the top 10, then Prince MUST go and PROMOTE his CD. He needs to do more appearances on TV. He must do a show like Oprah, who is a proven winner when it comes to record sales for artists who appear on her show. Sales will skyrocket if he does that show alone. He needs to go on other big shows like Ellen or Jimmy Kimmel and do an interview or 2. Prince must push this CD or it will tank and this CD does NOT deserve that. It’s just too good for it to flop and it’ll give music insiders more reason to think P is a “has-been” when we all know that he isn’t. I hope Prince thinks about that and his fans when it comes to promoting Lotusflow3r and taking it to the next level.

Congrats once again to His Royal Highness! He will always be #1 in my book!

We all know the music industry is crooked anyways, so who cares. The fact that the only place you could get Prince’s set was at Target and he still nearly beat out Urban is AMAZING. Also, “#1” is very subjective and depends what other artists are releasing music.

Anyone remember when NSYNC would sell over 1 million in their first week?? Puts it all into perspective, don’t it?

All that matters is that Prince and Bria have put out a VERY solid set of music that moves us emotionally and gets us thinking.. and isn’t that what music is all about anyways?

I say Prince should still have that bash for Bria, they were too close to #1. And yes they are #1 in my book as well 🙂
