YouTube Strikes Deal With Warner Bros. Music

So after days of it being talked about and after pulling all Warner Bros. videos from youtube 9 months ago, Warner Music has struck a deal with youtube.

No word on how this will effect videos by Madonna and Metallica, Warner Bros. artists. It was stupid for labels and artists to go after youtube. It’s great they are getting paid but it’s promotion. We don’t watch videos on whack-ass MTV anymore.  With youtube getting close to actually getting on television, it makes sense for labels to latch on to something that will handle advertising for them.

Here is more on the deal. Do you still watch MTV for music videos or do you turn to blog sites such as the esteemed Dr.Funkenberry & YouTube?-Dr.FB

It is always interesting how folks will ostrisize what is different.Or Alienate someone who doesn’t follow the same path as everyone else! But the minute they see that perhaps it is paying off they jump on the band wagon!lol I myself love showing support of my favorite artists and sharing the music/videos that I love. And it troubled me to think that by doing so I was somehow hurting the artist! How can word of mouth, free advertising truly be bad though? If someone is sharing your music and promoting for you are they not in a way working 4 u?And of course I am not referring to “filesharing” and not paying for songs.I do not wish to take $$$ out of the pockets of artists. There has got to be a way to expose without hurting. As far as MTV is concerned they honestly don’t deserve the name any longer!THEY ARE NOT MUSIC TELEVISION!Would someone please start a new channel and remind them what it is suppose to be about!Back in the day MTV was my source for videos. The videos shown on there became my dance classes. And have you seen that baby dancing to the Beyonce video “Single Ladies”?That was ME back in the day! That baby is learning! : ) MTV should get back to what they are suppose to be about and that is MUSIC!For videos I refer to Youtube,Myspace,Imeem,or Vimeo. As for the money & music thing…if you do what you love the money will come!Living in excess does not bring you happiness it just makes the journey in life a little smoother. If artists want to be heard or seen they have to expose themselves in as many ways as they can!And some of those sites I consider to be FREE ADVERTISEMENT sources! So I suppose it is a give and take – you pick your battles.I once again would like to commend Prince for opening up his options for the releasing of his art.I hope that it will prove to be a very positive move for him! 🙂

    Here’s a comment:

Funny how everyone came after Prince when he did the same thing almost 2-years! Now that the BIG ‘OL Label Warner Bros is now following “PRINCE” in what he did with you-tube…everyone (lebels and their artist) feels its ok for them today it. So who is CRAZY one now..huh? Just when everyone thinks Prince is doing something nuts and being an ass….everyone then starts to follow his lead. Examples: (1) Artist rights (ie. the name change), (2) Internet direct marketing and website (ie. loveforoneanother.com and npgmusicclub), etc., etc., etc.,. The list goes on and on. I’m not trying to get on my purple soap box but I just find it interesting that when you have artist like Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, George Michael, TLC, David Bowie, heck even N’Sync speak up against the current record industry norms…they are labelled crazy and out of bounds. Who really is the crazy ones!?

Yeah i said it and I’m sticking to it! LOL!

Nowadays when I wanna watch a video, I go on youtube or Dr FB or whatever blog that shows what I wanna see. If I dig it that much, I share it with people online. I’m not trying to hurt the artist, I want people to see why I love whatever song or artist I listen to and maybe they too will become a fan.

This is the new way of watching videos and to see any artist or label try and stop us from seeing someone’s work is just plain wrong IMO. I want it to be fair for all but in the end, it’s about us the fans and if you still want our money and your support, let your work be out there for all to see, whether it’s one artist or an entire label. Stop making it all about money and let it be about the art, which will in turn get you the money you desire to have.
