Many of you commented that you don’t like the new “We Are the World 25 For Haiti” remake that debuted at the Olympics. Jay-Z feels the same way, telling MTV News:

“I know everybody is gonna take this wrong: ‘We Are the World,’ I love it, and I understand the point and think it’s great,” Jay reasoned. “But I think ‘We Are the World’ is like [Michael Jackson’s] Thriller to me. I don’t ever want to see it touched.”

There were a lot of hip-hop artists on the track including Lil Wayne, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Swizz Beatz and Kanye West. But no Jay-Z. He says that he would have preferred that Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie write a new track to help the cause.

    it doesnt really matter if what Jay-Z said is the truth or not. The fact of the matter is… now is not the time to say it. why say something that could negatively impact the earning power of this song.

    The truth is that if every single member of the remake donate half their fortune their wouldnt be any money to collect fort the haitians. It would be enough in just 10 seconds.

    Completely agree with him, We are the World should never have been touched and leaving Michael’s part in did nothing to save it.

    Maybe Quincy and Richie wouldnt have been able to write something to that level after all how much input did they really have into the original.

    I totally agree with Jay on this one. It was ova when I heard Lil Wayne and that awful autotone thing. I bet Mike is spinning in his grave over this.

    I have to agree with Jay-Z (Hova to most of us!). But you know he is going to get flack for it BIG TIME! No worries HOVA we already had some one go through this once with Mr. Quincy Jones with the original “We are the World”…*cough* PRINCE..*cough*

    Hmmm, just do what Prince did and write a song about it to tell the truth. Look up and listen to Prince’s song “Hello” its all there…here’s a line to get you started “I tried to tell the man I didn’t want to sing but I would gladly write a song instead. He said ok and everything was cool until the camera tried to get in my bed..”

    That is why I like Jay z he tells the truth. I agree with him totally. It shouldn’t have been touched. The way it turned out was proof of that….A new song should have been created like Jay Z said.

    That’s exactly how I feel..there are some “signature” songs that should remain untouched.
