The Oscars Were Amazing & Boring

Let’s be honest here; until the last half hour, the Oscars were pretty much boring.

We knew Monique was going to win, and everything was not a shock or least bit amusing until the end.  Alec Baldwin & Steve Martin were good.  They did not run too long or do anything unneeded.

Weather George Clooney was really upset or it was all part of an act was the only thing interesting until the end.

Then came best actress.  When I saw Oprah out there, I am like there is NO way Sandra Bullock is going to win the Oscar.  I was like the girl from “Precious” in her first role is getting it.

So, yes, I was shocked when Sandra Bullock’s name was announced.  I was happy. She was stunned.   Having to hear for months from Julia Roberts how she turned down the role for ” The Blind Side” like it was  something beneath her, I was worried.   I was worried that Sandra would not get roles that would garner her an Oscar let alone a nomination.   I am happy to think that now any movie that has Sandra in it will have in the credits Academy Award Winner Sandra Bullock.  I like the sound of that a lot.

The Best Actor going to Jeff Bridges was not a surprise because the Academy usually gives it to roles like that.  Perhaps George knew that and that he was not going to win.

Then, came the big ones.  I think James Cameron already had a place in mind where he was going to put his Oscars in his house.  Barbra Streisand came out and already I was like….hmmm…something interesting is about to happen.  Interesting indeed as when Kathryn Bigalow’s name was read, shock then applause went through the crowd.  Yes,  James Cameron was married to her so it was interesting that an ex-wife and ex-husband went against each other in the same category but it is not what defines her.

Then came the big one and Tom Hanks, and everyone was like OK, she got best director but “Avatar” is def getting best picture.   I was stunned and the entire crowd was left with mouths open as Tom announced “The Hurt Locker” and it went from a boring Oscars to an Oscars to be remembered as an underdog war movie trumped a James Cameron movie.

An interesting show and some other notable moments:

Ben Stiller dressed as a character from Avatar.

Farah Fawcett being left off the list of those who passed this year.  I guess when you die the same day as Michael Jackson, everyone forgets about you.

Also, Bea Arthur was left off the memoriam list as well.  Tre lame.

The John Hughes tribute was brilliant.  Sigh.

What did YOU think of the Oscars?-Dr.FB

She still raked in a $15 million paycheck regardless of the Razzie award. So, what’s the point? Most struggling actors would gladly accept a Razzie award if a huge million dollar paycheck is attached to it.

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS OSCAR SHOW BECAUSE OF THE BEST ACTRESS AND HER HUSBAND JESSE WHO LOOKED GREAT TOGETHER. I ALSO AM GLAD SANDRA FINALLY WON BECAUSE EVERY OSCAR SEASON THE TALK IS ABOUT JULIE ROBERTS WILL I FEEL SANDRA IS A BETTER ACTRESS AND HER SPEECH WAS AMAZING AND IT MADE ME CRY.

THE WORST PART OF THE OSCAR SHOW WAS HOW BORING IT WAS AND I FEEL THAT ALL THE ACTORS WHO VOTED FOR HURT LOCKER WERE SHOWING ME THAT THEY BELIEVE THAT THE BUSH MADE THE RIGHT DECESION TO GOT TO WAR IN IRAQ. WELL ALL I CAN SAY AS A CANADIAN THE USA WAS WRONG AND SHOULD REALIZE BUSH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OVER 5000 DEATHS. THE BEST PART OF THE OSCARS WAS SANDRA AND JEFF THE 2 THAT DESERVED THE AWARD FOR THE EXCELLENT ROLES IN BLINDSIDE AND CRAZY HEART. SO I HOPE THE NEST BEST PICTURE TO WIN WILL BE A MOVIE THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE WARS.

Boring. Martin and Baldwin sucked overall. Stiller continues to prove that there’s no real reason for him to have a career. Mo’Nique was the picture of smug self-righteousness, though she clearly earned her award. Neil Patrick Harris was completely out of place. The only time it got interesting was when the White woman Kanye’d Roger Ross Williams for the Best Documentary Short win.

I think you reached inside my own brain and put my Oscar thoughts in this post. Overall pretty dull. I did enjoy Steve and Alec as hosts, some of the play on words were pretty funny (“that damn Helen Mirren! Ugh, that’s *dame* Helen Mirren).

I was so sad to be reminded that Bea Arthur was not in the montage. I know she was TV but still, she was a legend.

The other thing that bothered me was when The Cove team was up accepting for best documentary (great film BTW, go see it!). Rick O’Barry unrolled his poster about texting to donate to Save the Dolphins and immediately, the music swelled and they were escorted off the stage. Give them a break – their whole film was about the dolphins, can’t they just stand there with their sign and leave it at that. I personally thought it was rude to kick them off. I have a soft spot for dolphins I guess…

Ben Stiller was a definite highlight of the evening.
