Sad news. The House Of Blues lost a vote to the city council 4-1 to keep the venue past it’s 2012 least.
The council cited loud music (coming from a live music club? Really?) and unruly crowds. In the club’s 16 year existence, there was a stabbing 4 years ago but that event was played up.
An industry insider said the writing has been on the wall for HOB Sunset for a while;
“The parking situation there is a disaster and then lots in the area take advantage of that charging $20 per car where on other places on Sunset only charge $7-10 bucks. They haven’t been booking the acts they were famous for and are getting outbid by Nokia Club and other venues.
“The House Of Blues was approached to move the club to the Nokia Center but refused thinking they would get their lease renewed by the city.”
The city plans on making the space into a hotel complex.-Dr.FB

Posted at 20:51h, 11 SeptemberVery sad news for me to read, being this is one of my favorites venues to see live music in Hollwyood. I remember vey much my first concert at the Hollywood House of Blues. It was the summer of 1995 and seeing ICE CUBE for the 1st time perform there on the Predator tour was killer. Lots of great memories for sure!

Yes, parking is a nightmare, but where is it NOT a nightmare in Hollywood?? And the noise and rowdy crowds — um, I don’t think closing the HOB is going to improve the situation. They’d have to close down all the clubs on Sunset for there to be a noticable difference. Do we really need another high-priced hotel in it’s place? BOO!!!!
As with Tower Records on Sunset, I will always have the fondest memories of The House of Blues. Somehow the other locations just don’t compare to the one in Hollywood.

Posted at 14:19h, 09 SeptemberSad to see it go. Great memory of seeing Prince play there in 2004 after his Musicology show. Wendy came out on stage with him, Sheila too I think. It was awesome. Great, small venue.

Posted at 12:18h, 09 SeptemberThat is very sad to me. No reason for me to go on Sunset Blvd anymore. Tower Records closed a few years ago now HOB. I had some memorable moments there. Seeing Prince. D’angelo. Raphael Sadiq(who doesn’t like me), & many other groundbreaking artist. I do admit the parking was horrible around there. $20 which I have paid to park was just too much money to pay to park around there. 🙁
