My Goodness — With all the things going on in the world – this is what makes the news today? People should be more upset with Cadbury for calling Naomi a Diva as if she is still relevent.

LOL, it’s obvious, the creative intention of choosing Naomi’s name for the people who created the ad, well to them, Naomi happens to be a…”chocolate” supermodel in their eyes, who acts like a Diva. So the company used her name and known, diva behavior–with her skin tone and Diva behavior in mind, as a humorous pun to promote their candy bar. Even if folks don’t want to admit or believe that was the icreative idea behind the ad, at the end of the day, they pulled the ad because Naomi wasn’t pleased with them using her name to promote their product like that. End of story.

Speaking as a black woman, I think this is a ridiculous overreaction. My husband is white, and calls me “hot chocolate” all the time. Black men called me similar things, referencing chocolate. I wish people would stop “defending” we black “victims” – it’s old already.

They didn’t call her chocolate. they called her a Diva, and she is certainly a Diva, in fact she sets the standard.

Oh come on, let’s not butter this up…lol What was the point of choosing a black model’s name, and comparing her to a chocolate bar if they didn’t have her skin color in mind in the first place when they did the ad? The company apparently didn’t seem concerned about the outcome of how she would feel with that ad, but probably thought it was a cute and creative idea.

I think that the photo absolutely does diminish the validity of her outrage. The use of “chocolate” as a stand-in for black is especially prevalent in sexualized images of women of African descent. There is certainly a legitimate cultural criticism that can be leveled against such an association. But when someone like Naomi Campbell profits from it from one side of her mouth and then rails against it as racist when she isn’t being compensated, I do definitely think the “validity” of the outrage is in question.

As a black male living in todays America I do think this add is a bit much and really pushes the race card ………..But even super funk front man Bootsy Collins sang ” I’m hooked on you chocolate star ” ……and nobody trips on that ………..So is it’s kinda Catch 22 I think !
