Prince’s “The View” 1st TV Interview In Over A Year; Watch Now!

PRINCE did his first TV interview in over a year and when the ladies of “The View” were not giving him praise, he actually talked.

Prince talked about his upcoming “Welcome 2 Chicago” shows and if he really is shy or if he is a certain way around Barbara Walters.

In the second part of the interview, he was with the lovely and talented Rosario Dawson and Van Jones, who runs the “Rebuild The Dream” charity that Prince is donating some of the profits of the “Welcome 2 Chicago” dates to.

Check out the clips above and we wonder if there will be some more appearances coming shortly.-DocFB

I agree with Myles Matisse, his former writer boss, and wholeheartedly with his die-hard Prince friend.

I’m really not down with Prince being so quite in interviews. It’s really not cool. One of my writer bosses in Beverly Hills, who’s made a career out of making people laugh on TV was stunned at how ridiculous and non-everything Prince came across as. And, watching the clip, I can see what he’s talking about and realize the way Prince is so laid back and cool and so unpassionate like is not enlightening and impressing many people who are just normal folk off the street and not die-hard Prince fans.

Prince brings his all to the stage but quiets up on the set of “The View”, a place where he feels comfortable with all the female hosts. Barbara Walters shouldn’t have to be calling Prince out on his shyness and quietness because at this stage of the game, Prince should know how to present himself more completely and with vocal authority. To me, the whole ferocious cat on stage and meek & humble mouse off-stage is, frankly boring and doesn’t make for riveting television. Not cool.

And, when I mentioned to a friend of mine who’s a die-hard Prince fan (who also used to work for Prince for a few years) that Prince was on the show with Van Jones and Rosario Dawson, he was just floored with disappointment, calling Van Jones, among other things a communist and went into detail about how President Obama had to distance himself from and get Jones out of his administration when he realized how dangerous Van Jones’ comments were in public appearances. My die-hard Prince fan friend thought it was a major mistake for Prince to associate with Jones and that combined with Larry Graham, the two weren’t good influences on Prince’s life. As far as Larry Graham goes, my friend just thinks he’s castrated Prince in a creative sense of the word by taking Prince deep down a Jehovah’s Witness path. There was lots of food for thought in our discussion on Prince. Larry Graham and Van Jones was the main part of our talks and my friend thinks they are toxic elements for Prince to be involved with in any way, shape or form.

And, even though I loved the way Prince looked on The View, I was not impressed with how quiet Prince was and how he danced around Barbara Walters questions on WHY he’s so quiet.

I did think the hosts dropped the ball on follow up questions on all his unreleased songs and when they’d see the light of day. They SHOULD have followed up with more questions like…

“Are you not releasing a lot of music these days because of the complexity of getting a new record label on your side or keeping your own record label strong? And, also is no new music on iTunes because you just don’t believe in the money making possibilities of it?”

“Speaking of all your unreleased songs, have you thought of going back and remastering and reissuing your first 10 or so albums with Warner Brothers complete with liner notes and a bonus disc of rare, unreleased, b-sides and remixes and even a third DVD disc of all the videos and such from the particular album? Duran Duran and a few others have done that and it’s been successful. Have you considered it as many fans and new converts would love it?”

“And, while we’re on the topic of the internet and your music, I’m sure you’ve heard of what Questlove said about the fact that you don’t have an internet presence and about your first albums not being remastered. Any thoughts on that?”

Being that “The View” hosts just aren’t enlightened enough about Prince to ask meatier questions, we’ll just get these quiet, timid and a bit boring interviews that lack a great deal of substance. I did like how Prince opened up a bit about the unreleased songs and such and the part with Van Jones and Rosario and Prince was interesting and good, I just feel Prince should have enough personality, flair and savvy-ness to put himself across in a more vocal and expressive way. Otherwise, he comes across like he can’t be bothered. And, that’s not a good thing, as you can tell from my bosses’ negative reaction.

I agree with Tannis. Barbara seems very impressed by Prince staying in the industry so long & still being mysterious & worry & age free..She wants to get him alone & pry him. But he won’t…

I’m going to donate to rebuild the dream…i can’t get to Chicago. Van Jones said alot of very important things in a short amount of time. Especially when he mentioned his parents “bought a house to create wealth, not destroy wealth” and what students deal with now.

Years ago, I didnt finish my college years because the amount of debt I saw ahead of me, crippled me with anxiety. So, to everyone dismay I quit school and ended up doing better than I could have ever imagined because I followed my heart, instead of the crowd. Do I wish I had a college degree? Yes. Has it hindered me? NO. You can make your own life, and an education shouldnt cripple you with debt/slavery in order to simply subsist. Please give to Rebuild The Dream!

    “Detroit, What’s Happening”
After watching this, my stomach hurts. Prince, I don’t have a problem with you doing something for Chicago, but have you lost track of your roots? Detroit is hurting, really hurting and what you’re doing for Chicago could do a world of good and healing here in the “D”. We’re not New York, Chicago or L.A., we are Detroit and we were here for you when you needed us. Don’t forget about us now!Get Mojo involved, all your Detroit pals and let’s do something healing here…

Listening to this interview was nice and not so nice. Nice because it’s a new Prince inner-view, and nice to hear about his new charitable pursuits, but not so nice because they asked him about the same questions he’s been asked a million times before; (why he is shy, about the songs in his vault, what he thinks of other young artists, etc.) I can see why he would get tired of asking them, as well as why he cannot answer the questions effectively.)
