Exclusive! Rehearsal Jam! PRINCE & The NPG “Old Friends 4 Sale” Listen Now!!!

Wow. While rehearsing for his “Welcome 2 Chicago” tour dates, Prince & The NPG along with his 11 piece horn section, Prince sent in this beautiful and powerful rendition of “Old Friends 4 Sale” that is stunning to the ears.

To my knowledge, this song has never been performed live. Some of you may know the history of the song, being recorded in the 80’s, and before an official version was released in the late 90’s, the lyrics were changed. The story goes that the lyrics were too personal, so they were changed. There is a lyric change here as well.

If this is the kind of songs and instrumentation that Chicago can look forward to, these shows are going to be amazing.

I would like to thank PRINCE & The NPG for allowing us to share this with you exclusively. Absolutely beautiful. Very nice.

What do you think of the rehearsal jam of “Old Friends 4 Sale” by PRINCE & The NPG?-DocFB

    Prince,

Always have that horn section live. It makes a special show something beyond that. Transcendent, moving. Smashed it.

    We Love U.

    Mind is blown.

Pulling out OF4S alone is enough to blow my mind, but to nail it beyond perfection is to knock it out of the stratosphere!!

Those horns are the greatest. Unbelievable!! I truly hope he makes them a staple for horn oriented shows from now on.

Prince, here’s to you, the band and to many, many more years of good health and love.

    You get better with time.

I agree with the abowe comments. “a jam that is on the top shelf in the purple world.” Yes, among fans this has been one of the top 10 song for years.

“I think right about now would be a great time for a jazz album full of songs that sounded like this.” Yes, ive been missing real horns, and this kind of….well “mature” arrangements. Love it! 🙂

    VERY NICE INDEED 🙂
Thank you for sharing. Can’t wait to be able to attend a Prince gig again… was in Australia for years while he was performing in Europe and moved back to Europe shortly before his tour in Australia…. :/
I recently saw a beautiful movie, August Rush, with Robin Williams the actor and a marvelous young boy, a true musical genius… he made me think of Prince. Thank you for being you!

The original lyrics were personal but who cares about which version he sings when his voice and the band arrangement is this top-notch and musical. The melody and its soulfulness is what made this song great to begin with.

Love this song. It’s immeasurable how much this is going to mean to any purple people that get to witness this live. This alone will be historical if it’s played live. We’re talking about a jam that is on the top shelf in the purple world. A highly coveted jam that I’d love to be able to catch live. Hopefully this golden rarity will be played beyond the Chicago residency. I love when Prince throws an amazing curve ball like this into the show. This is whats it’s all about folks.
I think there is a lot more to come live from Prince regarding material for all different periods. Brilliant move on his part. To me, this is him throwing his most devout fans a gold bone. I think Prince has evolved a lot & I believe he does value and appreciate his fans, especially when we actually “get it” & really feel what he’s exuding. Heres to his health so we can enjoy him live for years to come.

Huge thanks for the rehearsals, great each time but Prince really should sing the ORIGINAL LYRICS: the 1st version maybe is the greatest song he’s ever written (sad but so beautiful). Too personal ? John Lennon made a entire album this way (his First solo), so ?

Loved Old Friends 4 Sale from the moment I heard it in the 80’s, vocally and musically, and loving what I’m hearing today.
