Tonight in New York City, there will be a tribute to PRINCE at Carnegie Hall with Questlove, D’Angelo, fDeluxe, Maya Rudolph, Wendy Melvoin, Blind Boys Of Alabama and others. Last night, they had a rehearsal where Elvis Costello covered “Moonbeam Levels”, an unreleased song by the icon.

Was this footage from the rehearsal or the afterparty? I wasn’t at either, but the Carnegie sound was perfect. Sooo… did he go? No mention of it at the gig.
Shame if he didn’t, but again, I hope he get’s too see it sometime..

If it was filmed, I hope he gets a chance to see the show. It was a moving tribute.
The performers honestly showed their love.

Always liked the song. Glad that the tribute songs being done dig a bit deeper in the catalog, bootleg or not. Glad I got to watch the video before it got pulled.

    John,

It was a tribute in the sense that musicians were singing Prince songs to raise money for various causes (mostly dealing with children and the arts in education).

John, it really isn’t wise to insult Prince here. This dude has more talent in his little toenail than you have in your whole body. Son, go somewhere else with your insults…not here.We are still about positivity on this site..we don’t need you here. Free speech is cool, but the insults aren’t appreciated.

    Ok, I get it!
His “My Love is True” stuff was wonderful and yes its completly Kewl that he’s here BUT…
wrong Key (voice granted) and he really doesn’t do a bad job. It’s actually an incredible (yeah, I’m gonna say it) mindfuk that dude actually knows this and it touched him!
He knows a Prince Bootleg’s and showed up to pay tribute, so I’ll give a soft pass on this one because We all love this track…
    Kewl?

Why is there a tribute to Prince? Do people actually care about him anymore? I have not heard that name in a long time. Maybe he is broke and needs the money

Well, I am not a fan of this version, but that is not the point is it! I said it on Twitter, but I am so happy for Prince that this tribute is taking place while he is alive and healthy and still so vibrant in the music community. You made some reference on the Spreecast (when questions arose about if he would attend or not) to the BET awards. I saw video of that, and I am not sure if he was criticized for something having to do with his reactions to others singing his songs, but I thought it was great to watch him. He looked honored and I am sure he must have felt honored.

I hope that people care less about how well or not well tonight’s performances will be. We know that no one does Prince like he do! But we shouldn’t expect them to, it is about paying tribute to a man who has influenced so many musicians and who clearly is a mentor to others still! (Andy Allo, 3rd Eye Girl). All I know, is I wish so much I could be at that Tribute, I think it will be amazing!

I hope he does go, I hope he smiles, I hope he feels the love.

Hey, is the “Pinterest” button on your blog new? I never noticed that before!

    Take Care Dr. Funkenberry!

One of my favorite songs of Prince, just a perfect song which should be realised by the master himself <3

The song must match the Artist somewhat :
    D’Angelo – Sexual Intercourse
Wendy Melvin – Joy in Repetition
Blind Boys Of Alabama – Dream Factory

I think it’s nice Elvis C is contributing to this tribute. It shows the range of musicians that Prince has inspired over the years. To me, it’s not about people doing mind blowing performances of Prince songs, but showing love, and respect, while also contributing to a fundraiser.
Besides the one and only Prince performing this song, I can hear Stevie Wonder doing the song justice, melding his own ‘Saturn’ into a mix/medley.

LOVE IT! Sure not as good as Prince, but just the fact these artists aren’t going to just sing hits is enough for me. I cannot wait to hear more of these songs!
