05 Mar Debut: KAN WAKAN Set To Release Album, Play SXSW
Verve Records will release Moving On, the full-length debut from KAN WAKAN, on June 3. The Los Angeles-based band recorded the collection with engineers Darrell Thorp (Radiohead, Gnarls Barkley, Atoms for Peace) and Tom Elmhirst (Arcade Fire, Beck, The Black Keys).
“Forever Found” above is Kan’s latest single. The evocative song found an early fan in Jason Bentley, who played “Forever Found” every day for a straight week on “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” airing on influential Los Angeles public radio station KCRW.
KAN WAKAN, which just wrapped up a month-long residency at the Echoplex in Los Angeles, will perform at the Echoplex/Origami/Spaceland presents showcase at SXSW on Wednesday, March 12. The band will also perform at the Universal Music Group, Highroad Touring, KCRW and Filter showcases. KAN WAKAN just played a show with Dr. Dog and Bob Mould at Noise Pop in San Francisco and also performed at FADER’s CMJ party 2013.
