“I am here, where r u?” Prince’s new song “Cause and Effect” premiered on Minneapolis public radio station 89.3 the current this morning. It should also be up on Prince’s website, lotusflow3r.com, later today.

Are u ready 4 the funk?!?!?!

Minneapolis public radio station 89.3 the current reports that  they’ll premiere a new track by Prince this Friday (7am) entitled “Cause and Effect”. Prince has been a supporter of the public station, even attending their 5th birthday party at Minneapolis’ First Avenue last month. The station describes the new song:

…it’s a rocker – filled with virtuosic guitar work, explosive drum breaks, a poppy chorus, trademark shrieks and whoops, some intriguing lyrics (“if I had the chance to do it all again / I wouldn’t change a thing except my next of kin”) and a call to mankind (“you need compassion”). Opening with Prince’s classic pop smarts, the last minute of the tune swerves into a propulsive minor key guitar/strings/drum workout like we haven’t heard from him in years.

To hear the new song from Prince, tune in to 89.3 this Friday at 7am Minneapolis time. If you’re not in Minni, tune in via the live stream on their website. The track will also be available that morning on Prince’s website, lotusflow3r.com.

Prince has been in the news recently because of an Irish trial over the cancellation of his Croke Park gig in the summer of 2008. Rather than take the witness stand, maybe ”Cause and Effect” will be Prince’s official statement on the matter?

DrFunkenberry was lucky enough to get some time with funk/R&B artist Malina Moye. If you like ol’ skool funk, we recommend checking out Malina’s new album “Diamonds and Guitars” – it’s full of great guitar riffs, funky grooves and strong ballads. Listen to a couple of tracks below.

Malina grew up in a family of musicians. Mom and Dad played for the band The Techniques and she considers George Clinton, Whitney Houston and other funk legends her cousins. You can see and hear their influences in her music, from her “upside-down” guitar playing ala Jimi Hendrix, to the waa-waa riffs of Prince and funky grooves of Parliament Funkadelic.

In the interview, Malina talked to us about growing up funky, meeting legends like Prince and Michael Jackson, belting out the national anthem before thousands, her Dad’s crush on Sheila E., and what she has in store for this year. According to music-news.com, Alicia Keys is “desperate to duet with Prince”. Despite winning nine Grammy awards in her career and collaborating with many top artists, Keys says “it would be a dream come true to record a track with her idol, the only celebrity who has left her completely star-struck”.

During an interview on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Keys said: “I met Prince before. I tried to act cool but I definitely had a little star-struck moment. He’s great.”

Keys has had her share of opportunities to hang out with the purple one. In 2001, she performed as part of his Celebration at Paisley Park. Keys also gave a speech for Prince when he was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

Prince also presented Keys with the best female R&B vocal performance at last year’s Grammy Awards.

Wonder if there are any Keys / Prince collaborations in the purple vault… What do you guys think? Would you like to see these two record together? -Dr.FB

Sheila, you are so wrong!  But…it’s kind of funny.  Sheila E. made a “fight song” for the Saints late last night where she dressed up as her friend Prince.

This was obviously in response to the fight song Prince made for the Minnesota Vikings late last week.

“Dig If You Will The Playoffs….” is how it starts with a little purple beat.

Chi McBride was on the “Dan Patrick Show” a sports show talking about his new show “Human Target” on Fox.

Dan wanted to talk to Chi about partying with Prince one time..  His costar at the time of the show “Pushing Daises” Kristen Chenoweth was invited to Prince’s house for a party and invited Chi along. 

Chi said Prince had a thing for Kristen (she is so sweet and so tiny, who wouldn’t?) and talked about how Dan and Prince have to crash Prince’s house.  Too bad they won’t be able to since Prince has been chilling (no pun intended) in Minnesota recently.

I am thinking Chi is talking about THIS PARTY and how Kristen sang with Prince.

Robyne Robinson broke the news at the local fox affiliate in Minneapolis, Minnesota, that PRINCE was set to debut a Minnesota Vikings fight song tonight.  The song is entitled “Purple & Gold.”

Prince has been seen at a few Vikings football game and may have been inspired by Brett Favre n the way they manhandled the Cowboys on Sunday.  Shoot, I hope it replaces Brett singing “Pants On The Ground” for sure.

Prince had this to say to FOX9:

“I saw the future,” said Prince.

He said he went home that night, wrote the song, “Purple and Gold,” and said it came easy and fast.
