Video~ African Elephants Bette and Kallie Give New Home A ‘Trunk’ Up
Posted in Life on July 28th, 2009 by Nurse GoodbodyIt’s not the great outdoors, but the Pittsburgh Zoo’s International Conservation Center provides 724 rolling rural acres that appears to be just what Bette and Kallie, two African Elephants have been looking for.
The elephants arrived at the former commercial wild-game hunting reserve July 8 after the Philadelphia Zoo closed its elephant exhibit. They walked outside for the first time, tearing into some grass and rearranging lots of trees. They roamed around the 3.5-acre paddock, fenced in by cement-anchored, 10-foot-tall steel I-beams, and heavy braided wire similar to those used on suspension bridges.
They seem very happy, and the zoo keepers are most certain this was the right move for these amazing animals! So if they are happy, I’m happy.
