19 Feb Senator John Cougar Mellencamp?
Earlier this week, Senator Evan Bayh announced he will be vacating his Indiana senate seat. Since then, a grassroots movement on Twitter and Facebook has emerged, calling for veteran Indiana rocker John Cougar Mellencamp to run for the office.
John Patterson, 57, a former Kansas Democratic congressional campaign advisor and Mellencamp fan, created the Facebook group to gauge support for the idea in the hours after Bayh’s news, and since then it has gone viral.
Even film critic Roger Ebert twittered “John Mellencamp (D-Ind.) has a nice ring to it.” Mellencamp has yet to weigh in on the idea but his agent says that he’s aware of the efforts from supporters.
During the 2008 presidential campaign, Mellencamp recorded radio ads for President Obama, and he chided Sen. John McCain for using songs “Our Country” and “Pink Houses” at campaign rallies.
One article quipped, “Who will vote for him besides Jack and Diane?”
What do you guys think? Would you put the singer in the Senate? -Dr.FB
