Gary Owens, legendary TV & radio personality has died at the age of 80. It is being reported it was due to complications of Diabetes, which he was diagnosed with when he was 8 years old.
Owens was the announcer of "Laugh-In" along with "Sesame Street", "The Electric Company" and the voice of the cartoon "Space Ghost" and also Batman at one time. It has been said he has been the voice of at least 3,000 cartoon characters.
I have seen Mr. Owens several times over the past few decades as he did not live far from me. He would be on his motorcycle or shopping at the store and every time he talked, he had that booming voice that you would be accustomed to hearing from him. As a fellow diabetic, it is troubling that he suffered from it but he lived to 80 and had an impact on so many who wanted to pursue a career in radio and television, myself included.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years Arleta and two sons who are both in the entertainment industry.-DocFB
Diagnosis: Instead of flowers or gifts, the Owens family is asking for donations to the
Children’s Diabetes Foundation.
