“Avatar” holds on to the number 1 spot at the box office despite a big Christmas opening for Robert Downey Jr.’s “Sherlock Holmes” and the box office had it’s highest total in quite some time.

Over the 3 day weekend, people bought about $278 million in tickets, which was more than the $261 million that the box office made when “The Dark Knight Returns” opened.  It just shows, despite the bad economy, people want to go to the movies and be entertained.

1. Avatar: $75 million

2. Sherlock Holmes $65 million

3.  Alvin & The Chipmunks 2 $50 million

4.  It’s Complicated $22 million

5.  Up In The Air  $11 million

“Nine” only made a little over $5 million.  “Avatar” has taken in $212 million domestically.

The industry is expecting the business to continue through the next weekend.-Dr.FB

Sandra Bullock Blind Sides New Moon From #1 Spot

Sandra Bullock took on “New Moon” and in the end, she won!

Both movies debuted 3 weeks ago with “New Moon” setting records.  Bullock’s movie “Blind Side” movie would have been number 1 any other weekend.  Last weekend, her movie stayed very strong while “New Moon” had a hefty decline.

In it’s 3rd week of release, ” Blind Side” declined but not as much as “New Moon” and now has the number 1 spot, which is a rarity for movies to do nowadays.

Congrats to Sandra Bullock for her second number 1 movie of the year, as “he Proposal” was number 1 earlier this year.-Dr.FB

New Moon Stays At #1; Sandra Bullock Stays Strong

New Moon stayed at number 1 over the turkey weekend.  It dropped over 70% percent over it’s opening weekend.  Yikes for the Twilights!

It did take in $275 million from Wednesday to Sunday for the best Thanksgiving Weekend ever in ticket sales however.

Sandra Bullock’s movie “Blind Side” made an impressive $35 million last week and this week brought in $42 million, actually doing better in it’s second week, which I believe has not happened since “The Hangover” earlier this year.

I am telling you all; that blond wig of Sandra’s is gonna get her nominated for an Oscar.-Dr.FB

New Moon Has Record Opening

New Moon raked in $140 million dollars on it’s opening weekend.  It did almost double as what Twilight did when it opened to $69 million.

Only “The Dark Knight Returns” and “Spider-Man 3″ did better.

A surprise at the box office was Sandra Bullock’s latest movie, “The Blind Side” which took 2nd place with $35 million.  Almost any other weekend, that would have been enough for first place.  2012 dropped to 3rd bringing in 26 Million after taking in over $60 million last week.

Did you see “New Moon” this weekend and what did you think?-Dr.FB

Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” movie was the number 1 movie over the weekend. It grossed $21 million while Paranormal Activity grossed $16 million.

Who didn’t see this coming?  The movie will now be in theatres not 2 weeks, liek they said it would, but will be there til Thanksgiving weekend.  You all knew it was gonna happen and if you didn’t, y’all are suckers!

The movie gives something that Michael never achieved while alive but now has; a number one movie.  We will see what it can do next weekend, it’s last weekend in theatres.

I saw the movie last week and was impressed. I never thought Michael would be so in tune with things. That’s a fault on me so you call can be upset with me over it, but nonetheless, I was impressed.

I never saw Michael in concert before. I have however stood next to him before and have been in the same place as him several times, talked with Debbie Rowe for a minute and talked with Michael over the phone before about Madonna.

Did you all see it? What did you think?-Dr.FB

When a movie doesn’t debut at number 1, nowadays, it just will not hit number 1. Not true with Paranormal Activity which debuted at #3 at the box office, but is now #1, beating out saw VI.

The movie was made for 22,000 and bought for 300,000 and has now brought in 67 million since the movie opened 5 weeks ago. Paramount has spent about 10 million promoting the movie so they are getting a lot of money back in the red.

Someone posted on facebook after seeign the movie, they will never sleep the same way again.  Hmm. Are you going to see Paranormal Activity? Have you seen it?-Dr.FB

The Cast Of New Moon Drops By Comic-Con

Is Comic-Con really about comic books anymore? I know some will say not for years. It still is in my eyes, just on a grander scale.

The cast of “Twilight”/”New Moon” made an appearance yesterday at Comic-Con where they sat on a panel to talk about the movie and deny a relationship story or two.  “New Moon” is going to kill at the box office. No pun intended.  Will it do Harry Potter box office?  Not quite but it is not to be f’d with.

Someone should come up with a Harry Potter versus Twilight comic book. Unofficial of course but it could be good.  What do you think?-Dr.FB

Harry Potter pulled down Bruno’s pants and gave him a spanking at the box office. Bringing in just under $80 million it’s opening weekend and $160 million in it’s first 5 days.

How did Bruno do?  Just a little over $8 million to place at number 4 and a huge drop off from opening weekend, over a 70 percent drop.  Potter has brought in $237 million overseas so far.

The movie has been very well reviewed and has already made 20 million than the last Potter movie over it’s last opening weekend.

Anyone see it?  Thoughts?
