Uh-Oh! “The Voice” Coaches To Cover Prince

It seems Fox’s Glee trying to do an all Michael Jackson episode last night wasn’t enough. NBC will be having the coaches of “The Voice” doing a Prince medley on the show next Monday.

“The Voice” returns after the Super Bowl on Sunday, but the Prince medley will be on the second episode airing on Mon. Feb. 6th.

We know coaches Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, and Christina Aguilera are Prince fans.  I am not sure if the other coach, Blake Shelton is one though.  If I am not recording anything else at the time, I might watch it.

I’m not the biggest fan of people covering Prince’s songs because it usually ends up like Lady Antebellum when they covered “Kiss” at last year’s CMT Awards.  It is Black History Month and perhaps we need a history reminder why you should never cover Prince:

Um, yea. My ears still remember that moment around 2:30. Sigh.-DocFB

Diagnosis:  I guess you say “take it to the bridge” if you can’t dance….

    PS

Xtina trashes every song she sings with her ridiculous vocal acrobatics. She has a powerful voice, but left to her own devices, she has no idea how to use it.

Okay. That wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but… that mess at the 4 minutes and 6 seconds mark was like concrete Q-tips in my ears!

“Kiss” is a highly stylized song. Trying to sing that song the same way Prince approached it, is like Rachel Ray trying to teach some famous chef in Paris how to cook!

As long as Prince stays off of television screens(he could be on tv regularly; he chooses not to), it’s nice that people care enough about his music that they want to perform it… Prince is not on radio much these days either; a victim of rampant payola perhaps, but he’d still be on the airways if he wanted to be.

I am not a fan of most Prince covers either. His singing style is unique and particular to each song. Unless you are completely changing the music, key, damn near everything, it’s going to sound like a cheap imitation.

I’m not a fan of Prince covers either. But out of anyone I would like to hear sing a Prince song its Cee-lo. His falsetto is on point and very soulful. He would do a Prince song justice.

I actually love covers like this, especially when performed live. Because it shows me two things:

    (1) A lot of other people still love Prince too

    (2) There is only one one Prince who can really pull this stuff off! :-))

Nothing could be as bad as the BET tribute to Prince. OMG!!! Thought I was going to die. That tribute pissed me off. Trey Songz was horrendous, horrendous, horrendous.
