Bobby Z. formerly of PRINCE & The Revolution joined DrFunkenberry & Seth Everett on our weekly Spreecast last week to talk PRINCE and take questions from the fans, where nothing was off limits.
If you can avoid being distracted by my hat, you will get a look at PRINCE that only Bobby Z. would know about.
Bobby shared with us after being asked by a fan that PRINCE played drums on "Head" and "Darling Nikki" and almost everything up until 1986.
Bobby called PRINCE "The greatest entertainer that ever lived.

Also in the spreecast, which you can watch in it's entirety above, Bobby discussed that PRINCE was always first with technology and Bobby implemented a lot of digital drums and triggers on stage.
Bobby feels PRINCE is a better musician than in 1984 and he keeps getting better ("Still got momentum" "Still moving forward")
Prince Bobby and Roger Linn of the Linn drum invented the INTERFACE so the Linn Drum box could be played on DRUM PADS LIVE.
PRINCE was progressive and an innovator from the start.
Bobby and PRINCE both used drum synthesizers.
Bobby admits that He was just copying what Prince did in the studio when performing live.
Also one of the first people (if not THE FIRST) to play samples like BOMB sounds via the DRUM PADS.
Bobby thought Prince was The "Greatest Piano Player He Ever Heard" as soon as they met....
The original core of the first band was PRINCE, Bobby Z., Andre Cymone. The original NPG trio? Hmm.
He also spoke of how impressive it was that even as Prince was starting out, people of the likes of Bowie and Wahol would come out to see them play because of how amazing Prince was.
Prince would say things like "We are gonna play SNL" and "We are gonna make a movie" and then those things would happen.
Bobby also shared his story of his heart attack 2 years ago and his charity event in March for MyPurpleHeart.Org.
The entire interview delves into so much that if you are a fan of PRINCE and wanting to hear stories never heard before, watching the SPREECAST is a must! We are working on getting a podcast version of the interview.-DocFB

Diagnosis: Condition Of The Heart.....
This weekend marks the 28th Anniversary of "Purple Rain" the movie. Within a week of its release, it would be number 1 at the box office, joining "When Doves Cry" as the number 1 single, and the "Purple Rain" soundtrack as the number 1 album on Billboard. Prince was the first artist to ever to hold all 3 at the same time.
It was Prince's 6th CD, the official debut of his group The Revolution and most importantly, his major motion picture debut. The summer of 1984 belonged to Prince. My favorite song (along with hundreds of others) by Prince was dominating my stereo. When Doves Cry got worn out on my record player. I had to replace the cassette copy of the entire album every 2 months. I killed it.
This movie had several stories going on, and it succeed, unlike "Rock Of Ages" earlier this year.. From the performances with the Revolution and The Time and Apolllonia 6, no rock/music movie has ever matched up to Purple Rain since it's release. EVER!
I just wanted to honor Prince and those that made the movie and the music so special to me and millions of others.
So Prince, Albert Magnoli, William Blinn, Susan Rogers, Apollonia Kotero, Morris Day, Jerome Benton, Billy Sparks, Jill Jones, Charles "Big Chick" Huntsberry, Dez Dickerson, Prince, Brenda Bennett, Susan Moonsie, Alan Leeds, Israel Gordon, Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Brown Mark, Jellybean Johnson, Mark Cardenas, Gerald E, Hubbard Jr., Paul Peterson, Jesse Johnson, 1st Avenue, The People Of Minneapolis and Prince, thank you. Thank you so much.
There are a few photos I took of some personal items that have ended up in my possession over the past few years. Some you may have seen before. I felt on this anniversary, I would pull them out for you. Much Love always.-Dr.FB
The Revolution, a band Prince formed in the 80's and was known as Prince & The Revolution has reunited tonight in Minneapolis at 1st Avenue, where "Purple Rain" the movie was filmed.
We will have more information and footage later.
The purple million dollar question is....will Prince show?-DocFB
Former PRINCE & The Revolution member Bobby Z. had a heart attack earlier this month. He has since been released and is back home. His former boss has a special treat in mind for him and fans.
PRINCE will be funking up the Oracle Arena next week in Oakland and PRINCE and company are rushing to get a new "Cali4nia" tour book ready for opening night! Tickets are selling fast, so you better hurry.
The shot above taken from the Parade era featuring PRINCE, Bobby Z., & Wendy Melvoin will be in the new version of the tour book. Also, other shots taken at PRINCE's recording studio Paisley Park and his run of sold out shows at Madison Square Garden will be featured as well.
PRINCE & The New Power Generation wants Bobby Z. to come out soon to join the tour and play "Purple Rain" with him.
Prince had this to say exclusively to DrFunkenberry.com;
"Nobody plays drums on the song "Purple Rain" like Bobby. Never flashy or loud, he plays like a slow burn love song. Bobby's way of playing made each live rendition of the song better than the last."
Hopefully, Bobby will be able to play "Purple Rain" soon.
What do you guys think of the photo and PRINCE's comments about Bobby Z?-Dr.FB

Purple Rain debuted 25 years ago today. The premiere was 25 years ago yesterday. Instant classic. Best Rock n Roll movie of all time. 80's chic next to Pretty In Pink, 16 Candles, and The Breakfast Club.

The classic "Purple Rain" movie is playing in Los Angeles tonight at the New Beverly Cinemas, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the film.
Prince's royal gem will be playing at midnight and it is $7.00 to attend. It should be a fun time and could take your mind off of other things going on, that's for sure.
We will see you there. As for the star of the film, we hear he is in Minneapolis. We hear the girl that Jerome Benton threw in the trashcan will be there though.-Dr.FB
2 of the most talented musicians in the world are performing an intimate set at the Largo in Los Angeles tonight.
Wendy Melvoin & Lisa Coleman, Wendy & Lisa will be performing songs from their catalog and music from the score of "Hereos" which they do as well.
I have seen Wendy & Lisa several times over the years and it is enjoyable. Lisa cracks these jokes and Wendy's expressions and storytelling is just great and makes my ears poke up. John Mayer & Eric Clapton even joined them with Doyle Bramhall II at a show before on stage.
I wanted to promote this on Thursday but I felt with what was going on, it wasn't a good idea. So if you are wanting to get out and take a break from what is going on, Wendy & Lisa would be perfect.
They are also doing a meet up with fans after the show, so if you want something signed, they are more than happy and appreciative to do so.-Dr.FB
