Robert Downey Jr. spoke with USA Today about his Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in Tropic Thunder as Oscar-obsessed actor Kirk Lazarus. “It’s so funny to me that the role is a guy who is an Oscar-seeking moron. His whole motivation is Oscars,” he says, “Irony is synonymous with pretty much everything that is going on.”

Downey is on the set in New York wrapping up shooting the big-screen adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, set to hit theatres this November. The film also stars Jude Law as Watson and Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler.
