Purple Rain debuted 25 years ago today. The premiere was 25 years ago yesterday. Instant classic. Best Rock n Roll movie of all time. 80’s chic next to Pretty In Pink, 16 Candles, and The Breakfast Club.

More photos as article continues here……>>>>

It was Prince’s 6th CD, the official debut of his group The Revolution and most importantly, his major motion picture debut.  The summer of 1984 belonged to Prince. My favorite song (along with hundreds of others) by Prince was dominating my stereo. When Doves Cry got worn out on my record player. I had to replace the cassette copy of the entire album every 2 months. I killed it.

Apollonia Kotero became my fantasy girl at an age where I should not be having thoughts like that.

This movie had several stories going on, which is something most movies don’t have nowadays. From the performances with the Revolution and The Time and Apolllonia 6, no rock/music movie has ever matched up to Purple Rain since it’s release. EVER.

I usually watch the movie every few years or so when it hits the big screen.

I just wanted to honor Prince and those that made the movie and the music so special to me and millions of others.

So Prince, Albert Magnoli, William Blinn, Susan Rogers, Apollonia Kotero, Morris Day, Jerome Benton, Billy Sparks, Jill Jones, Charles “Big Chick” Huntsberry, Dez Dickerson, Prince, Brenda Bennett, Susan Moonsie, Alan Leeds, Israel Gordon, Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Brown Mark, Jellybean Johnson, Mark Cardenas, Gerald E, Hubbard Jr., Paul Peterson, Jesse Johnson, 1st Avenue, The People Of Minneapolis and Prince, thank you.  Thank you so much.

There are a few photos I took of some personal items that have ended up in my possession over the past few years. Some you may have seen before. I felt on this anniversary, I would pull them out for you.  Much Love always.-Dr.FB

Wow, 25 years!!! I became a Prince fan 25 years ago when I was 5 and I saw the video to When Doves Cry on MTV at my Great-Grandparents house. I just discovered who he was the year before with 1999 and Little Red Corvette and was shocked that he had something new so soon afterwards, not knowing that they came out in 1982. I was all about Michael Jackson at that time, but I loved WDC and I wanted to see PR in the theaters but when I asked my mom, she laughed at me and said NO! I understood why a few years later. LOL

When I heard the album around the time that I saw the movie, I knew I had heard something special and I knew that I was going to be a Prince fan for the rest of my life and I wasn’t even 10 years old yet. Now as a 30 year old, I am still a diehard Prince fan and Purple Rain, the album, is my favorite album ever and I love the film more than I ever have. Prince is truly one of the greatest musicians/entertainers alive today and I appreciate him more than I ever have. I don’t agree with a lot of what he does but its no different than with anyone I know. It’s part of life and he still makes music that I love and cherish. As long as he’s doing that, I will ALWAYS be there to support him. God Bless Prince, The Revolution, The Time, Appolonia 6 and all who made Purple Rain possible.

May U live 2 see the dawn

I’ll never 4get the excitement I felt in anticipation of this movie. I had already been a fan 4 several years at this point. I remember most people just wanted 2 hear him talk if nothing else. But the movie had everything comedy, Kickass music per4mances, suspense and drama. Prince was on the verge of superstardom. He had already hit it big with “Little Red corvette the year b4.

But things were never the same 4 him after this movie hit. I was jealous becuz i felt i had lost my underground artist 2 the world. His audience was slowly building up until this movie hit it big 4 him.

But things r still the same with him. Still full of surprises & creating confusion and contradictions after all these years….My only idol PRINCE

Can I have your Schwagg? I will do anything for the movie Poster. I would even purify myself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka if that turns U on.. Dig, if U will, the picture? Me but naked, wet, the sun dancing across the lake and you painting a picture of me in a large clam shell holding a even larger pearl. Shh, it’s Wendy crying because she’s happy. Animals strike curious poses because they feel the heat, the heat between me and U…..or it could be the smell of the Starfish and Coffee I packed away for lunch. Do U lie?
What do I have 2 do 4 ur poster? Darling I would drink every drop of ur bath water. I would find 200 balloons and dance the dance electric. Tell me, do ur man have an @ss like this?

Who screamed? Was it U? LMAO LOL!!!!!!!

i’ll forever love the movie and the time! i was 10yrs old and loved MJ thru & thru! however i remembered seeing prince sing little red corvette on solid gold and sat quietly with my parents, with thoughts in my head, “who is this? i like this song! and he’s different!” then i begged my mom to rent me the VHS of purple rain and after numerous times she relented!

we sat there, not knowing the movie was rated r and i was hooked! she covered my eyes in some scenes, but i didn’t care! my parents were going through a very rough patch in their marriage, that ended in divorce that same year….prince’s words of a better life, another life, and the turmoil of relationships was my therapy! and i was going through puberty and prince’s songs was and still is an education in sex, salvation, romance, and love.

i can’t believe it’s been 25yrs! what a jouney! what an amazing and still underrated album and movie! i still watch it from time to time and it never fails…i always go to the purple rain!

    thank you.

Can’t believe it’s been 25 years – what a great trip it’s been. PR is what caught so many of us in Prince’s purple net and I have never even tried to get out because it’s way too much fun!! When Doves Cry on the radio led me to the movie, which led me to the concert which led me to a 25 year love affair with an amazing artist. I love u Prince! Come home to perform soon, we miss u.

DrF – I think you need to prescribe yourself a scanner. That invitation deserves a closer look! 😛
