I agree with most of you, that it sounds like, “You Gotta Shake Something” or “I’m The One U Wanna C”. But, that’s cool with me, because it only enforces my point to others, that…it’s as good as the other songs on the radio and he can make songs like that any day of the week. I was tapping my toes this song! If you can go crazy for Oranthi and Keisha, etc., you can enjoy this. Maybe he’s trying to get some of the younger audiences, not just those of us whose been with him since day 1. I know, we want everything Prince resleases to be ground breaking. Just look at this as a gift from his vault, like “Cause and Effect”, because we will probably never be able to buy or download these songs, but we will know they exist! He is trying to give on his birthday, instead of recieving! With all do respect Prince, Happy Birthday!

I am not a musician so I do not feel I totally have the right to criticize, but since you asked. This is not a criticism, this is a reflection. I have been listening since 1981. This track, and several others which Prince has released of late seem to be lacking inspiration in my humble opinion. I do not feel HEART in quite a few songs. Quite a few of the more recent songs feel very “poppy”. Kind of like what Prince used to call “Cadillac” albums or song; an album or song that was put out to pay the note on the Cadillac. We all know what Prince is capable of when TRUELY INSPIRED!!! MAGIC! I wish for him a beautiful new inspiration…

uhhh,….i don’t think it’s worthy of radio play. sorry prince……i think u’ve lost a lot of u’re creativity. the lyrics are bland & sounds like u’re singing back up vox 4 some chick. it’s pretty boring 2 say the least. get that creative, philosophical juice flowing again! we know its in there somewhere…still u’re number 1 fan!! just being honest

I sure was hoping that the word HOT….would mean something along the lines of “When I Lay My Hands On You!”, but unfortunately this song could very easily be played on an episode of Sesame Street!

Did, he REALLY say….”as long as your my companion”…..

It’s a Bangles “Manic Monday-esqe” throwback. If he had Susanna Hoffs singing lead and a little more melody on the keyboard, it might take off. Happy Birthday Prince. Today is your day and you can release whatever song you want to on your 52nd Birthday. Who are we to judge you? All the hits you’ve put out over your 30 year career. Your entitled to artistic freedom.

Usually I don’t like that kind of poppy songs, but I kinda like this one,
the melody reminds me of “Shake”, the guitar/synth part and the way Prince sings are cool.
I am not sure it’s gonna be a summer hit but it’s quite listenable compared with Purple & Gold and other Cause & Effect…

The song is a great little pop ditty. Nothing earth shattering, but it surely beats “Cause and Effect”.

For those in question, it’s Shelby J. bringing the female vocals. She’s been singing with Prince off and on since the Superbowl, at least…and a bit before.

I just think there is a wheel in Princes’ car stuck in the 80’s. He is an amazing talent I am truly a fan, but this song has a retro feel…again to his music. I would love to see what he could do if he allows a producer to steer his talents into the current time. Will I Am or someone that can at least propel his abilities where they belong.

Over the years, I had become one of Prince’s harshest critics. My wife cant stand Prince’s music, but as I type this, there she is bobbing her head to his music without knowing its him.

I have to say, this song is nice. It shows the joy in his heart and the liberation in his mind. Congrats Prince. You’ll always be relevant, important and respected.

PS, ask Questlove who I am…he knows me well.

Nice gesture of him to release this on his birthday, but not for me, thanks. It may sound much-much better played live, though. There is always hope. 🙂

Well All I can say is I have listened to the song about 12 time now in a row. Love the song. With so MANY things going on world wide, this is just what is needed. A happie, poppie, cheerfule, positive, up lifting sounding song. A true and fun song too it’s nothing like having a friend that’s got yo back no matter what it is.

Get the convertible out and let’s go for a ride on a hot summer afternoon on the 10 or the 401. Ending at the ocean/beach front with a nice chilled smoothie drink. Hot Summer it is gonna be literally and with Prince. Yeah let’s rock it!!!!! No negative attitudes just have a great time!!!!

    Thank you Dr. F.
