How Did Independant Artists Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Hit #1 With “Thrift Shop”?
Here is hoping that in 2013 and beyond, we see more independent artists hit number 1 with or without distribution deals like Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. If I find out that Justin Bieber's manager is behind this like "Call Me Maybe" and "Gangnum Stlye", I'm going to be upset!
Yes, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have hit number one with "Thrift Shop" after the video was released in August and the single made available in October. How did it hit number one and how may it change the music industry?
The song reached number one in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand before the U.S. where radio play is more determined by what label you are on unlike the other countries where the D.J.'s and listeners have more of a say of what gets played instead of controlled program director's here.
Unfortunately, this is only the second indie single to ever reach number 1 on Billboard because of what I stated before.
Because of the word of mouth from overseas charts and a video that now has over 77 million views, radio could not ignore the song. Heaven forbid the people who used to run radio find out that the corporations are the reason you hear the same 6 songs on the lame radio.
The power of Youtube and with social media being world-wide, you have people from Australia sharing the video through their Twitter and Facebook feeds that unlike radio, hit every market. When you have a fun video mixed with some Bat-Man pj's, the sky is the limit. Interesting enough, the only TV appearance they have had is on Ellen 2 weeks ago. Hmm. Ellen supporting Indie artists over Kimmel and Fallon? Someone better get on that!
Terrestrial radio is scared of Sirius radio. So much so that the Black Eyed Peas song from 2009 "Boom Boom Pow" censored the words "satellite radio".....
Here are the "free" radio lyrics:
Here we go, here we go, satellite radio
Y'all gettin' hit with boom boom
Beats so big I'm steppin' on leprechauns
Shittin' on y'all with the boom boom
Here are the "censored" lyrics:
Here we go, here we go, s******** radio
Y'all gettin' hit with boom boom
Beats so big I'm steppin' on leprechauns
S******' on y'all with the boom boom
So the "Satellite" radio line is just as bad as the "S***". Hmm. Well, maybe if "FREE Terrestrial" radio wasn't so "S***" then maybe satellite wouldn't be censored.
Right now, "Thrift Shop" is the exception when it comes to indie singles hitting number one. Sirius and Terrestrial radio are both taking hits while YouTube surges in popularity due to social media and being able to play what you want when you want.
Once radio puts the actual music back into the listener's and fans hands, only will you see growth in listener-ship, advertising, and with youth. If they don't wise up soon, you might be able to find radio stations in the "Thrift Shop" next to R. Kelly's former blankets.-DocFB

Taylor Swift Hits #1 On I-Tunes Again With “State Of Grace”
It did not take long for "State Of Grace" by Taylor Swift to hit number 1 on Itunes. Within hours of the songs release, it grabbed the top spot.
This is on the heels of "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" but the difference with "State Of Grace" is it actually deals with being in LOVE instead of a break-up or say...a "Dear John" like song.
Taylor explains what made her write "State Of Grace"....
"I wrote this song about when you first fall in love with someone ... the possibilities, kind of thinking about the different ways that it could go.”
"It's a really big sound. To me, this sounds like the feeling of falling in love in an epic way ... I hope you like it,”
We are just glad she is writing songs that are more upbeat. Now, if she can just stop acting surprised when she wins a gazillion awards, we will be even more happy.-DocFB

Adam Lambert Lands At Number 1 On Billboard…But Will It Last?
Adam Lambert's new cd "Trespassing" has debuted at number one, showing who the real American Idol always was. Will the CD have staying power however?
Adam promoted the heck out of this CD and we are glad it debuted at number 1. What troubles us is that it didn't crack the 100,000 mark.
John Mayer's new CD "Born & Raised" will debut at number 1 next week, selling over 200,000 copies to 250,000 copies without him being able to sing a lick due to his throat issues.
Yes, we are troubled but call us crazy, because we could see this CD have the staying power of Adele where it just keeps hanging around for a while. We are not delirious though, and know the CD will drop off a little next week. We believe in Adam and have a feeling he will be "Trespassing" on the Billboard charts with quite some time with several hit singles from this CD.-DocFB

The #1 MTV Video Of The 90′s Is……..
The number 1 is "Waterfalls" by TLC. There was no girls group that dominated the 90's like TLC. From "Ain't To Proud To Beg" on, their mics were on and people were paying attention. From being advocates to safe sex (Who could forget Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes Condom glasses) to the social awareness of "Waterfalls" to not dating male hoodrats in "Scrubs" from the groups real final cd.
There has never been a girls group like TLC. The reason? Because there is nothing like TLC. Chili. T-Boz. Left Eye. They integrated soul, pop and rap so eloquently, you didn't really know they were doing all 3 at once.
It's nice to see a social conscience song still relevant after all these years. Check out "Waterfalls" by TLC and let us know if you agree with it being the number 1 video of the 1990's by MTV.-Dr.FB

Superman Loses His Trunks & Lois Lane In Reboot
In case you haven't heard, DC Comics is relaunching all 52 of their comic books with Issue # 1's this September. That means the first ever issue of Action Comics featuring Superman since 1938. More than just a number's change, there are changes to the DC characters, namely Superman. A costume change and making him single again and not with Lois Lane.
Also, Superman's adoptive parents, Jonathan & Martha Kent are dead. It will focus more on his "Kryptonian" heritage more. Gone are his red trunks as well. It kind of looks like it is just sweats or what not without the red trunks.
As for him no longer being with Lois Lane, that is expected in a reboot. Making Superman single gives his alter ego Clark Kent more storylines, such as what Marvel Comics did with Spider-Man and his alter ego Peter Parker and his marriage to Mary Jane Watson as never happening.
DC Comics is making drastic changes to its entire line, aside from Batman. Dick Grayson took over the cowl from Bruce Wayne a couple of years ago when Bruce "died" but has not returned to the mask full-time.
The New York Post was given the cover of Action Comics #1 this morning written by Grant Morrison. It features a young Superman wearing the cape and blue jeans.-Dr.FB

Michael Jackson is Number 1 Richest Dead Celebrity

Michael Jackson Early 80's File Photo
Not like Michael Jackson fans are jumping for joy, but MJ is the number 1 richest dead celebrity, bringing in over $275 million dollars.
Mj beat alive celeb earnings of Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Madonna and Jay-Z COMBINED!
Elvis came in at number 2 with 60 million, trailing Michael by over $200 million.
MJ was never top earning money maker when alive at end of year numbers. Now, that is a surprise!
It appears that MJ will be on top of this list for the next several years, more than likely bringing in $200 million plus each year for a while.
MJ fans, how do you feel about this?-Dr.FB
