The Grammy's had their annual announcement special and aside from a great performance from Ne-YO, it was lackluster in every way.
Sure, you had Janelle Monae perform with Fun. but we saw that at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards.
I don't know if it was because it was in Nashville, Tennessee and a larger crowd than normal, but it just wasn't gelling. From the co-hosting of LL Cool J with Taylor Swift, when LL was doing fine hosting the show by himself. The Grammy's were making a concerned effort to cash in on the sales of Country Music, which has remained strong over the years of downloadable music. Plain and simple, Country music lovers BUY cd's. Does that make them more popular than artists who have their music downloaded for free? No. Don't let the Grammy's know that however.
My twitter and facebook feed is usually full of comments about award specials like this. There was barely any. These Grammy specials are usually ratings gold mines, but I have a feeling the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show had better ratings.
Here are the nominees for those that can't wait til Feb. 10th-DocFB
Diagnosis: Congrats To Frank Ocean on a night when the Grammy's seemed rather white....
The more performers they add, the more upset I am that the special is in Nashville, TN than Los Angeles this year. Ne-Yo and Fun. have officially been added to the Grammy Nomination Special that will air on CBS December 5th.
They join Luke Bryan and Maroon 5 as performers for the show that will be co-hosted by LL Cool J and Taylor Swift. The event will take place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. After the show tapes, Maroon 5 will perform a special one hour concert for the crowd in attendance.
The Grammy Nominations Special has been getting pretty impressive ratings in the 5 years since they started having them. Last years show raked in just under 40 million viewers, which was the largest Grammy audience since 1984.
The Grammys will be handed out in Los Angeles Sunday Feb. 10th on CBS.-DocFB
Diagnosis: Ne-Yo's new album R.E.D. is out now.
Lady Gaga with full on Skelator make-up performed at the Grammy Nomination Special in Los Angeles.
She performed her latest single "Marry The Night" and "You & I" with Sugarland. I love Gaga, you all know that. But she has stopped surprising me. What would have surprised me was not having to do the whole make up thing and just look...well..normal. You don't always have to play the freak.
It's starting to take away from the performance just a little bit is all. Am I wrong?-DocFB
Diagnosis: Sometimes, a little less is actually a lot more.....
Ludacris, a 3 time Grammy winner, will join Grammy winner Lupe Fiasco, and Grammy winning dup Sugarland as they have been added to the list of performers for the Grammy Nomination special which airs live on CBS November 30th.
They join Lady Gaga and Jason Aldean, who were announced last week.
LL Cool J will be hosting the special again this year.
There will be even more performers announced and special guest presenters as well.
This is the 4th year the nominations have been announced like this.
The Grammys will air live on Feb. 12th, 2012.-DocFB
Diagnosis: Should the announcement special have its own special?
