Happy New Year TV fans! As if not having the NFL Network is bad enough, Time Warner Cable may be taking away other top shows and networks.
According to the AP:
Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and 16 other channels will go dark on Time Warner Cable Inc. at 12:01 a.m. Thursday if a new carriage fee deal is not agreed upon by then.
The impasse over carriage fee hikes would mean "SpongeBob" and other popular shows like Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" and Stephen Colbert's "The Colbert Report" will be cut off to 13 million subscribers, said spokesman Alex Dudley, a vice president at Time Warner Cable. The nation's second-largest cable operator primarily serves customers in New York state, the Carolinas, Ohio, Southern California and Texas.
Viacom has asked for fee increases of between 22 percent and 36 percent per channel, an amount that could increase customers' cable bills, Dudley said. Viacom spokeswoman Kelly McAndrew said the requested increase was in the very low double-digit percentage range.
Viacom said the increases would cost an extra 23 cents a month per subscriber — which works out to $35.9 million more in total. It said that Americans spend a fifth of their TV time watching Viacom shows but its fees make up less than 2.5 percent of the Time Warner cable bill.
"We make this request because Time Warner Cable has so greatly undervalued our channels for so long," it said.
"Ultimately, however, if Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV and the rest of our programming is discontinued — over less than a penny per day — we believe viewers will see this behavior by their cable company as outrageous," it said.
Tense negotiations are continuing at the highest level, Dudley said.
Viacom accused Time Warner Cable of not negotiating.
"It is our sincere hope that they will come to the table and negotiate a deal," said McAndrew. The network operator also intends to tell viewers about the dispute in TV ads in 11 major markets.
Part of the disagreement is that most of the popular shows are rerun on Web sites where Viacom collects advertising revenue that it does not share with Time Warner, Dudley said.
This is not good news. Both come off as greedy, regardless of one cent or whatever, not during these times should you be trying to do this.-Dr.FB
Aaron Spelling would not have been pleased with AnnaLyne McCord of 90210 2.0
She debuted a new hairstyle in Miami, Florida last night and stopped n posed for the papparazi. I say Aaron would not be pleased because in the first few years of a show, he wanted the stars to keep the same look so the audience gets familiar with you.
Wonder if she will end up changing it back. I like it better this way as she looks a lil more dangerous then say her role implies.-Dr.FB
Charles Barkley was arrested this morning in Arizona on suspicion of DUI.
He had his blood tested on scene by police. No word yet on what his BAC was yet. No word yet has been released by Sir Chuck on the incident, but he has been released and he did take a cab home.-Dr.FB
Keeping it in the family may not be the best idea in Hollywood. Case in point, Dane Cook.
Darryl McCauley, Dane Cook's brother, who has been in charge of his famous brother's finances since Dane's success, was arrested yesterday by Massachusetts police after he forged a check of his brother's for $ 3 million dollars. Dang! That is some serious cheddar right there. Wonder how often he did that? For that high of an amount?
Dane has yet to release a statement and his brother will be arraigned later today.-Dr.FB

777 9311 Chick Hearn Court has been a popular hang out spot for Prince lately. What? Did you think we were gonna talk about the Miami Sound Machine?
2 Friday's ago, Prince made an appearance at the Conga Room where he checked out Mike Phillips & Brian Culbertson perform after midnight. There were rumors that the funk man was going to perform with the band, but something didn't smell right, don't know if it was my buddies cologne or what, but we knew it wouldn't happen and it didn't but while Prince was in the VIP section, Mr. Hayes from his band "The NPG" did get up on stage and solo.
Then the purple one was seen rooting for KG & the Gang Green of the Boston Celtics against The Dr's Lakers. We may have bounced Kevin Garnett like it was the Wolves in the first....round of the playoffs that is, but something tells me Prince might be celebrating another championship by the former Minnesota player round June.
Last Friday night, Prince returned to the Conga Room to check out the mixings of DJ Rashida & Viktor Duplaix. The crowd was in for a surprise as his longtime friend Sheila E. guested on stage, belting out "The Glamourous Life" and several other songs in the mix. The place was packed and jumping, you woulda thought it was 1984 instead of 25 years later. Truth be told, music n funk that good just doesn't age, it keeps it's freshness long after other songs rise and fall off the charts n out of our hearts. Even Earth Wind & Fire’s Philip Bailey got on the stix at one point.
Prince was also seen briefly at Bardot as well over the weekend in Hollywood with Bria Valente who dropped a song on us during that time.
With all that is going on, it sure looks like 2009 is gonna be mighty fine!-Dr.FB
Both of these reports are coming from TMZ and since they are getting defensive information, I feel it is worth reporting.
First, they reported the story about Tom's knee yesterday earlier this morning, then they got an update advising that Tom is not going to miss the 2009 schedule and actually is ahead of schedule on his recovery. They are saying this story may be a ploy to get Matt Cassell (Tom's replacement during the injury) more money. Indirectly, they called Peter King a BS'er. I know in the past Peter King has been Mr. reliable but sometimes, even the greats get it wrong. Matt Cassell is most likely going to be tagged by the Patriots as a franchise player, which means the league will set his value, not his agent or the NFL. Well, we will find out soon enough.
2nd, a kind of gross update on Tony Romo. It seems that he had some loosw cartilage that Jessica Simpson has now put back in twice for Tony since he fell in the shower after Sunday's game. Sigh. If only the Cowboys were able to be put back in place so easily.-Dr.FB
Jennifer Lopez & Mark Anthony are still denying divorce rumors. The latest one has them performing on Valentine's Day together at the Madison Square Garden for the last time, then divorcing after. I think there is trouble in paradise, but this story seems untrue.......Zooey Deschanel and Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, are engaged to be married.....A florist is going after Timbaland in Florida for 10 grand worth of flowers and decorations for Christmas he did not pay for they say......Salma Hayek was photograghed smoking last week with her kid not too far from her. Interestingly enough, we have seen her leave some of the coolest parties before because of too much smoke in a room......
Warner Bros. & Fox are about to play a game of chicken as both studios are not backing down over the movie "Watchmen".
Warner Bros. is refusing any type of settlement. Fox is saying they don't want the settlement, they want the movie.
Warners released this statement: "We respectfully but vigorously disagree with the court's ruling and are exploring all of our appellate options," the studio said. "We continue to believe that Fox's claims have no merit and that we will ultimately prevail, whether at trial or in the Court of Appeals."
Fox is looking to block the March 6th 2009 release date. They released a statement as well: "We are gratified by the recognition of our rights in the Judge's order, which speaks for itself."
So Fox does not want the settlement, they want the movie released as a Fox release. This def looks like it is heading to court on January 20th, 2009. Get your popcorn ready!-Dr.FB
