So PRINCE & The NPG performed at his Paisley Park studios this weekend. Friday night, it was a 2 song set with a dance party that followed. Saturday, it was an hour set then the dance party.
Both night's performances were in the dark. The reason they rehearse in the dark is to test musicians skills under pressure. A few of them cheated with light-up computer lead sheets. Overall, they did excellent.
As some of you know, I was asked to come out to Paisley Park Saturday early that same morning. It came as a surprise. They wanted me there by 3 P.M. rehearsal but the earliest flight had me there at 4:30 P.M. I arrive with texts saying that the NPG pushed back rehearsal til 7 P.M. since I was not there. Seriously? Oh man.
Prince & NPG will be taking over the City Winery tonight at midnight! Tix will be on sale at the door. All band members have posted about the show. Please LEAVE your cellphones at home!
Tickets will be $100.00 at the door!!!!!
UPDATE Sold Out online! City Winery Facebook Page Says to see ticketbuyers (scalpers soon).....
THE VENUE IS 21 AND OVER ONLY!!!!
Have fun Chicago!-DocFB

It is a little bit after midnight when I arrive at The Record Plant in Hollywood to talk with and listen to Andy Allo's "Superconductor" tonight. What I hear over the next few hours is an artist that is on the rise and willing to challenge herself and others around her to get there.

A new interview with Andy Allo talks about "Superconductor"'s distribution, chitlins, The Chappelle Show Prince basketball skit, and more!
The DJ's at KSFM tried to label Andy as Prince's girlfriend, but had them "slow their roll" as she said they were just friend's. After they got the Prince question out of the way, they were able to concentrate on her and the upcoming "Superconductor" album, her influences,
Here is part one, where they talk about Prince, the Chappelle Show, and Andy's Basketball skills.
In part two, Andy talks about her influences, Nina Simone, Sly & The Family Stone, and even throws in some Ice Cube for good measure. They also talk about how long she has been a singer and how the DJ scared beautiful women. She also touches base on distribution and how Universal is interested.
And in part 3, they play a slightly longer version of "People Pleaser" than you have heard before. She talks about working on "Superconductor" with Prince, Maceo Parker, The Hornheadz, and THE NPG and the DJ wanting to add some triangle to the album. We also find out that the album is planned to be 9 songs.
All in all, a very good interview as we found out more about "Superconductor" and Andy is having some fun. We hear there might be some coverage of Andy in the local Sacramento paper and a cover story as well before things get kicked off in the national spotlight.
Check out the interview above and let us know what you think.-DocFB
Andy Allo took to V101.1 FM In Sacramento with Big Al this morning, previewing new tracks from "Superconductor" and who worked on the CD with her, including Prince, Maceo Parker, Trombone Shorty, and others.
They talked all about that and more....all on one mic!!! The station has been moving buildings and did not have everything hooked up.
The songs previewed were "People Pleaser", "Superconductor", and "When Our Worlds Collide" and talked about making the record.
Big Al did want to pry a bit and ask what's going on with her and Prince. Andy said that he is a really good friend who surprised her by showing up in the studio in Sacramento while she is finishing up the CD.
It was nice to hear Andy talk about the experience making the CD and talking about touring with Prince & The NPG. I feel this was a great side to see and hear from her.
Here are a few clear sound clips from the show we were sent;
Someone caught the entire interview, which took place over 90 minutes, below. The clip below, the audio is not as clear as above but it does feature songs from "Superconductor" and a few other small clips.
Check out the lovely and talented Miss Andy Allo and say it with us...."Superconductor"...spell it out. Big Al. Just playing man! Thanks for everything.-DocFB
With only 1 show left in Australia, Prince performed 2 shows since his last main concert in Brisbane, one an afterjam that we hear was quite epic, and a 2nd secret show.
At the Brisbane afterjam, PRINCE & The NPG performed a funk-infused version of "Mutiny" with versions of "Insatiable", "Scandalous" and a full version of "Adore" thrown in. If that wasn't enough, he also performed "$", "Song Of The Heart" and "Days Of Wild" for good measure. That does not even include him performing "She's Always In My Hair" at the main show.
Then, Monday night, PRINCE performed a secret club show in Melbourne. You either got DJ Rashida's Tweet about the show or were there as we are told only 70 to 80 people were in attendance for the show. Looking at the set list, Prince performed "Love 2 The 9's" "An Honest Man", "Tambourine" "Sexy Dancer" "Strange Relationship" a cover of "Oustanding" and "Rude Boy" performed by NPG singer Shelby J.
His 8th and final "Welcome 2 Australia" concert is May 30th. No Afterjam has been announced yet and we know the people who missed the secret show and afterjam (for shame) are hoping for 1 more afterjam so that won't have to live with regret til PRINCE & The NPG come back to Australia again.
These shows sound amazing and a LOT of fun. Let's hope there is more to DJ Rashida's tweet about a soundboard recording of the Brisbane afterjam somehow getting out.-DocFB
