Exclusive! PRINCE Reaches Out To Former Revolution Member After Heart Attack

Bobby Z. & Wendy Melvoin. Exclusive Photo For DrFunkenberry.com Courtesy NPG Records 2011

Former PRINCE & The Revolution member Bobby Z. had a heart attack earlier this month.  He has since been released and is back home.  His former boss has a special treat in mind for him and fans.

PRINCE will be funking up the Oracle Arena next week in Oakland and PRINCE and company are rushing to get a new “Cali4nia” tour book ready for opening night!  Tickets are selling fast, so you better hurry.

The shot above taken from the Parade era featuring PRINCE, Bobby Z., & Wendy Melvoin will be in the new version of the tour book.   Also, other shots taken at PRINCE’s recording studio Paisley Park and his run of sold out shows at Madison Square Garden will be featured as well.

PRINCE & The New Power Generation wants Bobby Z. to come out soon to join the tour and play “Purple Rain” with him.

Prince had this to say exclusively to DrFunkenberry.com;

“Nobody plays drums on the song “Purple Rain” like Bobby.  Never flashy or loud, he plays like a slow burn love song.  Bobby’s way of playing made each live rendition of the song better than the last.”

Hopefully, Bobby will be able to play “Purple Rain” soon.

What do you guys think of the photo and PRINCE’s comments about Bobby Z?-Dr.FB

It is so great when such great artists, such as Prince, who from normal people’s eyes seem to live in a world of their own, are able to make such great gestures! Well done

The “WORLD” bends back upon it self. Its hidden meaning being age of man. This is revolution. At the end and beginning the age of man meets the end times, and every knee be bent and every man’s ego be brokened if not by their own doing.

I love this story. I just hope that the book is as lovely as it sounds. Regardless of what people think Prince has a heart

Everyone just should really chill and relax- It’s very exciting, these new developments, I know, believe me, I’ve been in a Purple Fog since Welcome @ America was announced. This Revolution business is serious lyrics to those who hold the music so close to their hearts, I knoe I’m one of ’em. Prince taught me a lot early on about emotions through his music, and for that I’m more grateful now than ever….

If Bobby Z never plays again, he has done more than enuff 2 support his legacy.

He should njoy da fruits uv his labor..

However, if he does play at Prince’s request, it could b Prince’s way uv spending time with him, bcuz 2 spend time with Prince can only b thru music…

In all, I’m sure Prince iz more concerned about Bobby’s health than most would give him credit for..

As for the treat, it would b more fun if we wouldn’t try 2 figure out wut it iz…

    Afterall……

    DON’T U LIKE SURPRISES……….

“Now that I would go to. But until that happens, I don’t care if these shows end up just in my backyard down the street Staples Center. I’m not attending. I’m done”

I don’t know why U so called fans continue 2 post or make any negative comments on these sites. U need 2 take the negativity else where. That is a horrible thing 2 say. Prince is his own vision. The past is what it is the past….Its his life and career. He has showed his appreciation & grievance and U still not satisfied. I can’t believe the negativity is starting 2 show up on this site that Prince supports & U wonder why he shuts down his sites so quickly….

I’m amazed Prince actually has even spoken about his songs and early band members like this. Its almost lamentful at how Prince keeps burying the past and not once speaking in detail about what went behind his songs, in studio and live.

Its a great thing to say about Bobby Z. Since the eighties I’ve been a fan of what Bobby brought to the table in terms of his playing, his style, how cool he looked playing drums and his preciseness and timing. His snare tone to the way he hit cymbals, all that made an impact on me as a kid learning my drums because OF Robert Rivkin!

I hope this inspires a reunion of appreciation FROM Prince to The Revolution, whom seem abandoned with no remasters to help ex band members a little with musician life supporting funds if you know what I mean.

Appreciate them now Prince – Bobby Z., Dr. Fink, Wendy & Lisa, Dez, Andre, Erica and Atlanta. Those were your peers, they were on your level, they saw your vision out.

Not so sure you ever got your groove back after working with all those hired hands post Warner Brothers.

But will a full Revolution reunion tour happen? NO.

Because Prince is a Jehovah scripturist and he wants the “lion’s share”. I hope the lion’s willing to help out his fellow cats.

Now that I would go to. But until that happens, I don’t care if these shows end up just in my backyard down the street Staples Center. I’m not attending. I’m done.

@Seven she (Dancedwithhim) is entitled to write anything she wants. So I suppose u know him and his motives and how many tix were sold for the soul purpose to see HIM! and has sold out in this economy hello??? people have said again n again they just want Prince up there ect, but its soooo nice that he shares he doesn’t have to.
Who is delusional to think a drummer would sell more tix 4 him u must be dreamin even when Shelia wasn’t @ some shows ppl wrote “I go to a P concert to see P” not anyone else. Why do you go? that scares me that ppl like you go.
You knew your wrong by sayin “I’ll say something positive first” Oh Please don’t bother, you say she thinks she knows him so you really do then right? Thats why you say allegedly…
By coming to this site for this purpose shows everyone just how smart you are:) so don’t worry were anything but concerned with u. I’m just bored and am having a glass of wine had a stressfull day n thought I’d start somethin 4 giggles B4 I go watch a movie

Dancewithhim, please don’t respond to me again. My comment is my opinion. I’m entitled to it. I didn’t come to this site to be questioned by a delusional person who thinks they know Prince because they danced on the stage with him one time. My post is meant for Prince because I know he likes Dr. Funkenberry.com. Don’t concern yourself with how smart I am. It doesn’t matter.

I think I have to go to the TD BankNorth Garden & get something canceled…Lol… just a joke I don’t need the karma – Yet I am so happy for Prince at this time… & HOPEFULLY by the time the tour hits Boston, there will be even BIGGER SURPRISES!

2 Seven and maybe others, we all have relatives and friends we don´t see the often we’d like, or should, & when something good -i.e. wedding- or bad -i.e. heartattack- happens we manage to see them and to bring them all our love.

That’s what P is doing, I don´t see any problem in this. Simple.

But we like 2 talk, and talk…. is good 2 be that smart, isn´t it??

I’ll start with something postive. It’s great Prince gave money to a Harlem school, a dance academy and dance theater.

IMO Prince loves pimping people for his own selfish reasons. Allegedly Prince owes millions for failing to perform a Dublin show in 2008. It’s hasn’t been easy for Prince to sell out arenas on his own like he use to.

Prince, Bobby Z is recovering from a heart attack! This promotional tactic to promote the California tour is very self-serving. Don’t use Bobby Z to sell concert tickets for your Oakland show. It’s tacky. Why haven’t your fans seen Bobby playing with you over the past 15 years if nobody plays drums on Purple Rain like Bobby? I hope this concert will at least help Bobby Z financially.

At his last concert at MSG in NYC, Prince also stated that Bobby was one of the people who helped him get to where he is today. I have no doubt of the love, and I too am wishing for Revolution reunion. Keep in mind, Bobby needs time to heal, so it may not be so soon. In any event he is definitely in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

    Peace & Positivity
