With the news of Prince having a new guest drummer in Hannah Ford, we knew it wouldn't be long until news of an upcoming tour would be happening. Within hours, "Welcome 2 Chicago" appears to be happening.
Prince reportedly will be taking residency at the United Center in Chicago starting September 24th and and with tickets going on sale September 6th.
The residency will also be used to support Rebuild the Dream, the organization founded by Van Jones that seeks to “build strong vibrant communities and to fix our economy from the ground up.”
“We couldn’t be more excited about partnering with a legend like Prince,” said Van Jones, Co-founder and President of Rebuild the Dream. “Our economic system is broken. Rebuild the Dream exists to unite arts and organize into a potent force to support the Dreams of Our Communities. There are few artists who have Prince’s unwavering commitment to a vision of a sustainable, fair economic future.”
Rebuild the Dream is a platform for bottom-up, people-powered innovations to help fix the economy not just here in the U.S. but Globally as well. Using 21st-century digital technology, we advance highly inventive solutions that are designed to protect and expand our communities, while creating pathways to prosperity for those who are locked out of it. Our goal is to put People back to work–and pull our communities back together.
There is already an on sale page set up for the September 24th show on ticketmaster.com
Chicago and the Midwest, are you ready?-DocFB
It'll be interesting to see how Chicago media covers the Prince shows. Chicago media(and, probably all other media) ignore those who ignore them. Since Prince won't "prostitute" himself, Chicago media will probably ignore him......and the whole thing probably amuses Prince anyway......
@Qaid Amir Ali I know riight?! Is it a blow off or just giving us more time to get ready cuz were next? I try not to get those ants in my brain that say the former.
@Purple Music: I certainly don't want to stop the show from happening and I hope everyone who goes has a good time. I just wish Prince's lawyers would stop trying to shut down fan websites.
Can't wait to hear the rest of the dates. Saw him here in Los Angeles 6 times last year and as soon as I hear the rest of the show dates, I'm planning my trip to the "Windy City". Purple Yoda, here I come again! Woohoo!
O no! Not another PurpleMedley/BestOfTheRest/AllTheHits-Tour. Don't like it. It's Vegas Style. Hi, Musgrave! 4 Years without new CDs??? What about 20ten, released in July 2010 in germany. (And I am a german man.) We need a new Prince album. Studio!
Electricberet and rico, thanks for not coming...yay! You definitely won't be missed and your absence certainly won't stop the show from happening. In the meantime. Chicago will welcome Prince with open arms. It's great to see Prince partnering with organzations that help empower youth/adults in various communities. So cool!
Wish I was there!! Also excited to know that he is partnering with "Rebuild The Dream." I love Prince's commitment to valuable causes. We'll miss you, Rico.
In other Prince news, today he shut down a fan website devoted to cataloging his unofficial recordings. What's up with that? I will not go to his Chicago concert unless he lifts that ban.
Excellent News! Unless of course,.. it's a promotional tour for Larry Graham's New Album due out at the same time...... Also - do you realize that we are only 5 months from the 4 year mark since Prince Released an album. Yikes........ Musgrave - Chicago
VERY COOL P's doin' a residency in ChiTown ( wonder what happened to the the St. Paul MN. show ). Hope he gives some love to Minnesota too ( got fam there too ).
