Randy Jackson, Keith Urban, Ryan Seacrest, Mariah Carey, & Nicki Minaj remained united for a Hollywood Reporter story on the American Idol judges.
Seacrest stood between Mariah and Minaj who have not been getting along with each other during auditions and despite reports, we are sure producers are hoping for fireworks between the 2 judges instead of hoping for a talented top 10 finalists.
Jackson gave his usual rhetoric that there will be "at least 4 contestants" that will have big careers because of Idol. Urban spoke that he wants to help contestants get rid of the cheese around them to find the true musical talent they have. Yea, like ditching a cowboy hat, wearing tight open shirts, and marry a Hollywood actress.
Mariah talked about how Idol went about approaching her for the job. We wish someone would have asked if it would have been smarter to wait to see who the other judges were before signing on and if she had any regrets:
"I was on the fence about the whole thing. I got approached by all the shows. He [her husband, Nick Canon] said I should do it because it's the top, it's the cream of the crop. And I felt like, 'Do the show that's produced massive stars who have had major careers.' I know everyone's like, 'We can't have schmaltzy answers,' Well guess what? Some people still want to be inspired. Some people need to have that kind of validation and to feel like, if this person did it, then I can. And I do have one of those stories."
Minaj talked about why she was picked a judge and how she never pictured to be in the limelight like she is now. Ahem:
"[There's] a judgmental culture in hip-hop. Sometimes you are afraid of being too famous because it's almost, like, is that even cool? Being that accessible, someone you see on TV every week? I never pictured myself as that type of person. I'm still surprised that I decided to do it."
Aside from The Voice, ratings for the other singing shows have went down. With Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo leaving that show, it may be in the same boat. The shows rarely focus on the talent but more on the star of the judge.
Who can name the last winner of X Factor or the past 3 winners of Idol? Thought so.-DocFB
Diagnosis: The 12 Season of "American Idol" kicks off on January 16th.
Drfunkenberry was on set for the upcoming season finale of VH1's "Hollywood Exes" and we had time to catch up with Mayte Garcia and talk up Jessica Canseco.
Mayte seemed very happy and the cast seemed to get along great with a few glasses of champagne thrown in for good measure.
I asked Mayte about a season two if VH1 has picked it up and she told me she doesn't know yet but is pretty sure.
We are told if they get a certain number of viewers tonight against the Olympics, they will get an automatic season 2!!!! So make sure tonight to watch "Hollywood Exes" and record the Olympics. I mean they are on tape delay any way right?
We needed to talk to Mayte privately about a certain someone's clothes(WHY???) and a few other things and we will have that conversation for you shortly.
"Hollywood Exes is on VH1 Wednesdays, so there is a NEW episode tonight!
We may even ask some of you some questions for her. Will let you know what happens. Cool?-DocFB
The deal is for one year and was made today at the TV Critics Association Summer Press tour in Beverly Hills.
Depending on if Randy Jackson stays, they still have at least one judge's chair to fill.
The rumor that Adam Lambert will fill that seat is still in effect.
Mariah just released this statement via twitter and facebook: "It's gonna be so much fun working on American Idol. As a singer-songwriter, I'm excited to help find and nurture new talent. LYM!" --MC
So was signing Mariah Carey to Idol a good move for the show to keep it alive?-DocFB
American Idol is trouble. Big time. Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have just quit the show. Randy Jackson appears to be leaving the show as well. There are only 3 people who can save Idol now, and the producers need to make it happen. Who are the next American Idol...judges?
The next judges need to be Adam Lambert, Pink, and Justin Timberlake. Anyone else and the show is going to fail. You are going to want reasons aren't you?
Adam Lambert. Let's be real. The show hasn't mattered since his loss to Kris Alan a few years ago. He wasn't good enough then to be the American Idol but he is needed now to save the show. He is coming off a number 1 U.S. album with "Trespassing" and a monumental run of dates overseas with Queen. Although "Trespassing" did debut at number 1, and there is other solid material on the album, it would be in Adam's best interest to take the Idol job.... There are no set tour plans and although some people may see this as a step back for Adam, you have to look at what it did for Steven Tyler and Aerosmith this summer to see this would be ideal for Adam and the Lamberts. Adam has been there. His advice to contestants would be invaluable.
Pink. Pink just dropped a new single and has set plans for a new album later this year. She still has a new baby at home. She would be the edge for the show. The female Simon Cowell who will tell you the truth and be short and to the point. Although she has a new album coming out, the show could work for her the way that it worked for Jennifer Lopez...and more...because unlike Jennifer Lopez, Pink is still relevant musically. She could perform on the show, premiere new videos on the show, and get the exposure all without having to leave her baby and her husband too far.
Justin Timberlake. You all remember he used to make music, right? Before he was trying to sex up Mila Kunas, he was bragging how he was going to bring "Sexyback" on "Future/Sex/Love/Sound" earlier this century. That album was filled with great material...the awful "Sexyback" aside. Either Justin has lost love for music or those movie paychecks are just too big. This could be what inspires him musically and at the same time, scope out talent for his own record label. That would have to be the provision in the contract that Justin is able to sign two artists that do not make the top 8 and 2 that do not make the top 16, giving him 4 artists that he could sign. Justin would bring a unique style to the show and at the same time, be giving Britney Spears a run for her money on X-Factor.
Think about it. This works and saves Idol at the same time. If they actually make this happen...I may watch an episode this season.
What do you think? Should Adam Lambert, Pink, and Justin Timberlake be your next American Idol judges?
Who do U want?-DocFB
Tyler released this statement;
"After some long ... hard ... thoughts ... I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit.”
"I strayed from my first love, AEROSMITH, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band. The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass – the ultimate in auditory takeover."
"On Nov. 6, we are unleashing our new album, Music from Another Dimension on the Earth, Moon, Mars, and way beyond the stars. IDOL was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it ... Now it’s time to bring Rock Back. ERMAHGERD.”
At a press conference for the "Global Warming" tour, Steven stated that "We would not let you down" when it came to Aerosmith. It seems he knew that he would have to commit to the band full time.
As for Idol, there has been no ill will and wish Steven good luck with Aerosmith.
With Jennifer Lopez being non-committal about returning to the singing competition, Idol is in shambles yet again.-DocFB
What do you do when a reality show may not be giving you the drama you need? Why, you call Dina Lohan and ask her to be in the mix. That is EXACTLY what VH-1 has done with "Hollywood Exes" a reality show debuting later this year.
We first told you about the show back in March that the show would feature the ex's of Prince, Eddie Murphy, R. Kelly, Will Smith and others.
We had a feeling that Mayte Garcia (Prince's ex) and Nicole Murphy (Eddie Murphy's ex) would be pretty tight-lipped on the show about who they used to be with, and would rather focus on what is going on in their lives now.
We are told that Dina is not exactly a cast member but will be hanging out with the ladies and causing drama. OK, we added the last, but that for sure is what is going to happen. For. Sure.
What won't be happening? Lindsay Lohan, Dina's famous daughter, appearing on the show.
VH-1, won't you go back to playing music videos instead?-DocFB
Team iLuminate were finalist on "America's Got Talent" last year and took over Ellen's stage for a in the dark Tron like performance.
We dig the jacket they hooked Ellen up with at the end. Although, we think it should have said Funkenberry. Just sayin'. Check out the performance above and let us know what you think.-DocFB
