It’s official!  Betty White will be hosting Saturday Night Live on May 8th.

It will be the Mother’s Day episode and is already going to have 6 former female cast members on the show and we imagine a boatload of guest stars.

She can thank A Facebook campaign that was kicked off after her Snickers Super Bowl commercial where she let herself be tackled.

Betty was asked to host Saturday Night Live 3 times before and turned it down.  This time, her agent said he would divorce her if she didn’t do it.  It was like do it now or when you are 95.

White, who is 85 is looking forward to the gig.  “It’s lovely, and at my age it’s certainly unexpected.”  I’ve got so much energy, it’s ridiculous. I love working. My schedule is a feverish one, and I’m used to that.”

Ahhh.  The power of Facebook.-Dr.FB

I guess the Facebook campaign worked!  Betty White has confirmed to People Magazine that she is heading to “Saturday Night Live” but it may not be to host.

There is no known date of when she will be on, but it will be by seasons end.

Since “The Proposal” Betty White has been on fire.  Saturday Night Live?  Not so much.  This will be good.-Dr.FB

Lenny Kravitz Is Still A Straight Cold Player!

Posted in Entertainment, Music on February 22nd, 2010 by drfunkenberry
Lenny Kravitz on the cover of Mix Magazine, March 2010

Lenny Kravitz on the cover of Mix Magazine, March 2010

Lenny Kravitz celebrated the 20th anniversary of “Let Love Rule” with a 2CD deluxe edition of the album, filled with unreleased material and a fantastic live show from 1990, as well as a completely sold out world tour. Since then, he has been recording and finishing his long awaited “Funk” album “Negrophillia” in his studio in the Bahamas.  All along the way, he has been bringing his fans along for the ride. LIKE NEVER or ANYONE BEFORE!

Kravitz uses the Internet in a unique way to correspond with his fans directly.  Not in the whole “hey guys, what you have dinner” rhetoric you get when following a Kardashian on Twitter but with the posting of a photo of him in the studio recording and released minutes after it is shot or a video of him creating a song or just chilling in the Bahamas with family and friends.

He uses his Twitter and Facebook accounts for that purpose andhas an outstanding 1.6 million people following him on Twitter in less than a year with no project to promote at the time.  1.6 million??  With no radio play or real media attention?  See, Lenny understands the new technology of interactions with fans like no other artist.  Get the music and news straight to the fans and they will find a way to get it. A short “making of” film of the song “Super Love” has already created a huge buzz online. The video was posted the same night the song was recorded, completely unprecedented and proving the love Lenny has for his fans. This has made “Negrophilia” the most anticipated album of 2010 amongst music fans, critics and Internet users all over the globe.

There was a classic video of Lenny getting lost on his way to an Atlantic City performance entitled “Lost In Borgota” that was filmed by Mathieu Bitton on his iPhone that other artists may have been embarrassed about but Lenny took you on that adventure.  That moment captured by Bitton was a stroke of creative genius and started the now fan-favorite series of short films by Bitton. “We were in the elevator filming a 30 second twitter shout out about the show when we suddenly realized we were lost and no one was coming to get Lenny to bring him to the venue” says Bitton. “Lenny just looked at me and said “Take out your phone and film, this is some ridiculous Spinal Tap shit and we gotta share it with the people.” The rest is history. The movie ended up on MSNBC and CNN worldwide and was the most talked about online film that week.

When a snippet of the unreleased Michael Jackson track “Another Day” written and produced by Lenny was leaked on a mix tape that R.Kelly put out, Lenny, within hours of the leak, recorded a video statement via Twitter about his frustration with the song being released in that manner and wanting to get a proper version out to the fans.  This became his most watched and re-tweeted post to date. We hear Lenny spent most of that same night mixing and finishing the track and is hoping for a release by Sony this year. Sony stepped in to remove the unreleased version off any web site carrying it.

With Lenny’s new CD coming out this fall, his 1.6+ million Twitter followers are sure to grow along with many artists trying to use the LK way of new promotion in this digital and Twitter age. 20 years into the game, Lenny is way ahead of the curve and is schooling younger artists on self-marketing in the new age of online marketing. “What I love about Lenny’s usage of this medium is that he does it all with the fans in mind. He doesn’t ever want to over saturate them or give them unnecessary information. Everything has to be up to his standard of class,” adds Bitton. “I am witnessing the making of Lenny’s greatest album yet, the one he was born to make and am so proud to be here to help bring it to the REAL people. The fact that Lenny is embracing this new technology is sure to help the album reach more fans and make more new fans than ever before.”

For a peak inside Lenny’s studio Gregory Town Sound in the Bahamas, pick up a copy of Mix Magazine out this friday. Lenny is featured on the cover above.

Also, Lenny is headed to Los Angeles to attend the NAACP Image Awards where he is nominated for bestsupporting actor in Precious and then the Oscars where the film has 6 noms.

If you’ve been missing out on Lenny’s adventures, be sure to follow Lenny Kravitz on Twitter. You just never know where he’ll take you.-Dr.FB

The Grammys Have A Problem

Posted in Celebrity News, Entertainment, Music, Television on February 1st, 2010 by drfunkenberry

The Grammys last night had a problem.  Actually, they had a lot of problems and I am about to address some of them right now.

First of all, the Grammys need to follow the Golden Globes lead and what the Oscars have done for years and that is go LIVE around the United States and the World.  We are living in an Internet world where people use Twitter and Facebook to converse and we have friends in different states that are watching it live while we wait for 3 hours, but we see them tweet about performers and awards.

As we become more advanced, the need for LIVE shows is more important.  Trust me, people on the West Coast get screwed on finding out the results of American Idol as well.

The Grammys were so heavy on commercials that it made me wish I DVR’d them instead of wanting to watch them live.  That was some lameness right there.  You don’t have a host so it cut down on time, but it doesn’t help when we are getting 15 minutes an hour of commercials.

If you guys are so strapped for cash then maybe you need to come up with this: “Here is the Best New Artist Award, brought to you by Target.  Target.  Where you get crap for less.”  I mean you are already commercialized so much any way, we wouldn’t really notice and then you would not have to go to a break so quickly.

Another thing is Adam Lambert got so much crap from censors about his performance at the American Music Awards.  You want to know what is more annoying to me?  When the Black Eyed Peas are performing and you hear about 10 seconds of dead audio because they just had to curse.  That was sooooo 1993.

The Lil Wayne, Eminem and Drake performance was even worse.  It is not enjoyable at home and I am ALL about artistic expression but B.E.P. and Em, Wayne, and Drake, your performances were straight booty because you not being professional enough to keep it clean for TV.  It is the most annoying thing to not have audio for that long.  Can’t you think of other words that rhyme with duck or lit or pucker?  Come on now.  Show your versatility.

Lastly, the Grammys gave out a BUNCH of awards before the show.  Taylor Swift’s first ever Grammy was given before the show aired.  We missed her excitement.  Lady Gaga did not win any awards on the telecast but actually won 2 before the show.  Maxwell won R & B male but we did not see it.  Jay Z won two awards for D.O.A. and Eminem won for best rap album but we did not know.

Toby Keith talked about the grammys not giving Country music respect.  Sorry, but  for R & B music and Rap music categories to be ignored the way they have is horrible.

A message to the Grammys, the MTV Awards, The American Music Awards, the TV networks and Award show producers need to figure this out and make some changes or the Grammys next year won’t be in my home, they can go home.-Dr.FB

Golden Globes To Be Star-Studded Affair

Posted in Celebrity Gossip, Celebrity News, Entertainment, Movies, Television on January 9th, 2010 by drfunkenberry

The Golden Globes are going to be a star-studded affair with confirmations of:

Gerard Butler, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Sam Worthington, Matthew Fox, and Leonardo DiCaprio with more to be announced.

I am happy that the Golden Globes will be aired live on all coasts with no delay.  Hopefully in this Internet age of Facebook and Twitter, more award shows will go live like that.

Well….to be honest, I am looking forward to the after parties.  Who will be my designated driver this year?-Dr.FB

Janet Jackson Flash Mob On Way To Promote #1’s CD

Posted in Celebrity Gossip, Celebrity News, Entertainment, Music on November 3rd, 2009 by drfunkenberry

JANET_03

If you are going to be in the L.A. Area November 14th, join the Janet Jackson # 1’s Flash Mob. To find out, email flashmobamerica@gmail.com, facebook.com/flashmobamerica or twitter.com/flashmobamerica. It should be fun.

Also, on November 18th, there will be a Janet Jackson special on ABC Television.  When we have more info on the special, I will pass it on.

It’s been 14 years since Janet’s last greatest hits CD, but you won’t have to wait much longer! Thirty-three of Janet’s worldwide #1 hits, plus a newly recorded single will be available in one package - NUMBER ONES.

The two-disc set will be released November 17, 2009, in the USA; November 23 worldwide. The international release will be titled JANET JACKSON: THE BEST.

The new single “Make Me,” was produced by Janet and Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, a Grammy Award-winning songwriter, producer and musician who also worked with brother Michael.

Janet’s next studio album is slated to be released in 2010. But we all know Janet’s a triple threat so there’s more coming next year than just music.

Janet will also publish her first book, providing an intimate look at her life and how she has dealt with issues of self-esteem. We’re told she’ll be revealing some intimate details about her career in music, television and films.

What do you guys think? Excited about this greatest hits collection and new single?

Nice old pic of Janet looking fine.-Dr.FB
