Randy Jackson, Keith Urban, Ryan Seacrest, Mariah Carey, & Nicki Minaj remained united for a Hollywood Reporter story on the American Idol judges.
Seacrest stood between Mariah and Minaj who have not been getting along with each other during auditions and despite reports, we are sure producers are hoping for fireworks between the 2 judges instead of hoping for a talented top 10 finalists.
Jackson gave his usual rhetoric that there will be "at least 4 contestants" that will have big careers because of Idol. Urban spoke that he wants to help contestants get rid of the cheese around them to find the true musical talent they have. Yea, like ditching a cowboy hat, wearing tight open shirts, and marry a Hollywood actress.
Mariah talked about how Idol went about approaching her for the job. We wish someone would have asked if it would have been smarter to wait to see who the other judges were before signing on and if she had any regrets:
"I was on the fence about the whole thing. I got approached by all the shows. He [her husband, Nick Canon] said I should do it because it's the top, it's the cream of the crop. And I felt like, 'Do the show that's produced massive stars who have had major careers.' I know everyone's like, 'We can't have schmaltzy answers,' Well guess what? Some people still want to be inspired. Some people need to have that kind of validation and to feel like, if this person did it, then I can. And I do have one of those stories."
Minaj talked about why she was picked a judge and how she never pictured to be in the limelight like she is now. Ahem:
"[There's] a judgmental culture in hip-hop. Sometimes you are afraid of being too famous because it's almost, like, is that even cool? Being that accessible, someone you see on TV every week? I never pictured myself as that type of person. I'm still surprised that I decided to do it."
Aside from The Voice, ratings for the other singing shows have went down. With Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo leaving that show, it may be in the same boat. The shows rarely focus on the talent but more on the star of the judge.
Who can name the last winner of X Factor or the past 3 winners of Idol? Thought so.-DocFB
Diagnosis: The 12 Season of "American Idol" kicks off on January 16th.
American Idol is trouble. Big time. Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have just quit the show. Randy Jackson appears to be leaving the show as well. There are only 3 people who can save Idol now, and the producers need to make it happen. Who are the next American Idol...judges?
The next judges need to be Adam Lambert, Pink, and Justin Timberlake. Anyone else and the show is going to fail. You are going to want reasons aren't you?
Adam Lambert. Let's be real. The show hasn't mattered since his loss to Kris Alan a few years ago. He wasn't good enough then to be the American Idol but he is needed now to save the show. He is coming off a number 1 U.S. album with "Trespassing" and a monumental run of dates overseas with Queen. Although "Trespassing" did debut at number 1, and there is other solid material on the album, it would be in Adam's best interest to take the Idol job.... There are no set tour plans and although some people may see this as a step back for Adam, you have to look at what it did for Steven Tyler and Aerosmith this summer to see this would be ideal for Adam and the Lamberts. Adam has been there. His advice to contestants would be invaluable.
Pink. Pink just dropped a new single and has set plans for a new album later this year. She still has a new baby at home. She would be the edge for the show. The female Simon Cowell who will tell you the truth and be short and to the point. Although she has a new album coming out, the show could work for her the way that it worked for Jennifer Lopez...and more...because unlike Jennifer Lopez, Pink is still relevant musically. She could perform on the show, premiere new videos on the show, and get the exposure all without having to leave her baby and her husband too far.
Justin Timberlake. You all remember he used to make music, right? Before he was trying to sex up Mila Kunas, he was bragging how he was going to bring "Sexyback" on "Future/Sex/Love/Sound" earlier this century. That album was filled with great material...the awful "Sexyback" aside. Either Justin has lost love for music or those movie paychecks are just too big. This could be what inspires him musically and at the same time, scope out talent for his own record label. That would have to be the provision in the contract that Justin is able to sign two artists that do not make the top 8 and 2 that do not make the top 16, giving him 4 artists that he could sign. Justin would bring a unique style to the show and at the same time, be giving Britney Spears a run for her money on X-Factor.
Think about it. This works and saves Idol at the same time. If they actually make this happen...I may watch an episode this season.
What do you think? Should Adam Lambert, Pink, and Justin Timberlake be your next American Idol judges?
Who do U want?-DocFB
It was obvious after Tuesday's show that Phillip Phillips was going to be the next American Idol. Maybe if Jessica Sanchez was able to perform with Jennifer Holliday on Tuesday's show, she would have made it more interesting.
Chaka Khan dazzled with her very skinny self and Neil Diamond showed that he can still dress sharp and bring his own style to the show.
There was a tribute to Robin Gibb that was somewhat off key. A tribute for Donna Summer that was to feature Sheila E. never made it to live air. Guess there just wasn't time after an on air proposal from former Idol castoff's Ace and a girl with a nice backside.
The finale underwhelmed like it did for most of the season. We were not talking about the performances, aside from Jessica Sanchez being "saved" weeks ago. Nope. We focused on Jennifer Lopez's dresses and some overobsessed on her make up. We looked for what Steven would say.
We never had that shining moment. We had a moment when Sanchez did "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston earlier in the season. To show how much this season lacked, they had Sanchez sing the song again last night.
The American Idol Finale used to pull in Super Bowl numbers with special guests and a few surprises. There were no surprises. Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler made it bearable last night but not "must see" at all.
So, expect Jennifer to get her $25 million plus. Expect Tyler to pull in $12 million and to see them next year. The thing is, unless the talent improves, something has to change on Idol.
Somewhere, Simon Cowell is scheming. If the judges of American Idol are stealing the show, his judges will do more than that. With Britney Spears signed on and up and comer Demi Lovato there as well, it makes "must see tv" for X Factor.
The reason? The talent pool on X Factor was much better than Idol's this year. Simon knew his show needed improvements and fast. Hiring Spears and Lavato gets them age groups that Idol no longer has.
Idol had to remind us about Kris Evans and Taylor Hicks last night. They even took credit for Adam Lambert (Not an Idol winner) hitting number 1 knocking off Carrie Underwood, who was an Idol winner.
The Voice isn't dominating yet although the talent pool on that show was better than Idol this season. Simon Cowell knows Idol dropped the ball and he intends to pick it up and not give it back.

So the worst kept secret in Hollywood is out; Britney Spears & Demi Lovato are your new X Factor judges, replacing Nicole Sherzinger and Paula Abdul. Still no word on who is replacing Steve Jones.
Over a month ago we talked about Britney's millions to judge on X Factor, $15 million to be exact, where there were others wanting to join the panel, including most vocally, Chaka Khan. They went and signed Demi Lovato instead, wanting an even younger demographic.
It has been reported that Britney was nervous at the press conference Monday and there are photos of her where she appears to have been biting her nails quite bad. She stumbled in her speech. Those that wanted her to fail and cause a train wreck on live TV are already salivating like birds in the desert over live meat. Pathetic.
As for Demi Lovato, others cannot go one sentence on her without saying "who" or talking about her barely getting paid a million dollars to be on the show. So what? Those that read DrFunkenberry.com on the regular know all about Demi Lovato with her ginormous hit "Skyscraper" last year and the problems she has had with her weight and other issues. People forget, she is not only judging but mentoring. Whose to say she does not get the girls 12-18? Her advice will be spot on as she is not so removed from that age. She will be able to help them in ways the other judges can't.
As for L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell, let's male no mistake about it; these are Simon's girls, not Reids. Ahhh, L.A., did you think we would forget last year when our girl Drew covered Lovato's "Skyscraper" and you called it "an old people song" and got booed by the crowd? Nope, we didn't forget buddy. Chris Rene so far has had more success than Melanie so far so we will give you that. Perhaps you are not as in touch as you thought is all. I remember you telling a friend of the site one time that he was "out of touch" but he has been proving to you ever since that "he is the touch" buddy.
All in all, I am looking forward to X Factor. Not for the train wreck. Britney will have her struggles but will still prove people wrong. For those that do not know who Demi is, we look forward to her judging, her input, and showing those Italian roots when Simon or L.A. try to put her down.
Are you looking forward to X Factor this fall?-DocFB
I've never seen Simon Cowell so disgusted over a vote of no before.
Tiah Tolliver had Simon fighting for her and L.A. Reid siding with Simon as Nicole and Paula were steadfast on a no. (Make sure ot watch the whole clip especially after the voting around the 9:14 mark. Wowza.)
Did Paula or Nicole see "Steel" like Simon did? Check out the clip to see if Paula or Nicole changed their vote to a yes....-DocFB
Diagnosis: D.O.A. OR A Fighting Chance?
So the announcement everyone knew was made today as it was announced that Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson will be the American Idol judges for at least this season.
What do you think of this announcement? Will you watch American Idol when it returns next year?-Dr.FB
While J. Lo remains quiet, and hasn't posted on her Twitter account in 6 months, which we imagine will change today, Steven Tyler was anything but quiet last night in Las Vegas.
Although TMZ reported Steven Tyler would be in L.A. all weekend, he actually performed with Aerosmith last night in Las Vegas.
Steven said during the show;
“recording an album and [I’m] probably going to be a judge on American Idol.”
"I’m doing it. What do you think? I’m doing it.”
He also said "I’m pregnant with Joe Perry’s baby.”
The official announcement will be today where barring any last minute changes, it will be Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson as your American Idol judges.
Not sure if Ryan Seacrest will make the announcement.-Dr.FB
