What’s Up Doc? The Window Seat Edition
Welcome to the latest edition of What's Up Doc? The Window Seat Edition.
This week, we talk about Sandra Bullock, Jesse James, George Lopez, Janet Jackson, Erykah Badu, and Ricky Martin.
Special shout-out to Jillian Barberie and Good Day L.A. for the shout-out they gave me on air this week.
This March was the best month ever for the site. Yes, we say that every month, but our audience is growing and for that, I thank you very much. Much love and keep it funky!~-Dr.FB

March was big Douglas because of the Sandra Bullock story. Every day, she was the top search bringing people to the site.
You forget that only People.com and this site were the first to go with the story.
We had NO stories on him in March. NONE. Never once was he in the top 50 searches bringing people here. Just because you guys are the one’s posting a majority of comments does not mean that’s the reason.
And, YES, I do take offense. I am busting my ASS here. Busting my ass to get interviews, to break stories, spending long nights searching for news, purchasing photos, investing a lot of time and money into this site, trying to make it different, from a radio playlist, to having the site where you can be logged into facebook and chat without actually being on facebook.
Busting my ass to get a mention on Good Day L.A. for the Barenaked Ladies.
So yes, I do take offense when there are more stories on Lady Gaga than anyone else, followed by Michael Jackson.
I have written over 4,000 posts and it takes years for blogs to make it. Like 4 years. I am busting my ass to do it in less time, all while working a regular job 40-50 hours a week. So, yes, I do take offense big time. I sacrifice so much of my life for this site, and it sucks when I have to read something like that.

perhaps March was big, because people were checking here to see if Prince was gonna announce some kind of new website, or add stuff to the current one? just sayin’……..honestly never thought I would have to sift through hollywood gossip just to find out what Prince is up to……..i mean really, no offense doc

“..Also, if I read it correctly, he owes like under $3 million to a promoter and about $450,000 in taxes. Let’s see…..he makes about $3 million per show so he does 2 shows and he is out of the problem. Hmm. Sure doesn’t sound like a problem to me. If you worked for 2 days, would your money woes be cured? OK then…..”

Ok Esther, here is why in my opinion; Kanye West’s web site has millions of people on it, and I went there when Kanye news broke and there was 1 comment. Now, you have a dedicated, older fan base in the Prince and MJ fans, who for the most part have been on the Internet and message boards for over a decade. They are used to logging into sites and posting their comments unlike a younger generation after them. It comes to they just want the info and move on.
You have other sites that have been around for 5 years and they get about a million hits a day and they will have way more comments then us. From June through October, people were commenting more on each story. What I have seen on other sites though, because I do check my competion, is that their comments are down as well. I can’t explain why but they are. I talked with people in the tech world about it because it does bother me, but the numbers are down everywhere when it comes to comments, not just here.
On the Prince posts as well, you will see a lot of back and forth between people. You have “heat” as you have people who post negative stuff about him or what not. For the life of me, if I did not like someone’s music anymore, I wouldn’t post. That’s me though. You need that “heat” in every post. We were starting to get that on other posts but haven’t yet.
It’s like yourself, who used to post on every news story, and I appreciated it very much. However, you let someone get on you about spelling, when everyone spells crap wrong on comments, get to you. So I lost you as a commenter over it. That hurts because if I had 10 stories a day, that means I would get 10 comments a day from you.
We are at the point of still growing and not everyone knows each other or responds to each other, which is why in the past, I will ask questions and stuff so you will get to know each other. Without that interaction, wether it is positive or negative, you are not going to get comments, regardless of pageview counts. So if you want to help, comment more please.
Another thing, if comments do not stay on topic to the subject at hand, they were being deleted by my former tech and I am incorperating it as well. That hurts comments and say a band we are trying to promote when someone else is leaving crap that has nothing to do with the subject at hand. I am not in a dire need for comments to let crap stay.
THIS site has only been in existence since October 2008. The Funkenberry name since March 2008. Only counting stats since October 2008, we have double the audience PH had in that time. PH did not get popular til close to his 4th year of doing it.
The site has 4,000 posts and we average 4 comments per post. When you think about it, it is not bad.
As for your question about Prince and his “financial woes” let me say this; the comedian Sinbad and Nicolas Cage are in more of a pickle than him. Check my site. I did not talk about Sinbad’s tax woes or Cage’s tax woes. From a journalistic point of view, I stuck to what I always did which was not report on star’s taxes. Also, if I read it correctly, he owes like under $3 million to a promoter and about $450,000 in taxes. Let’s see…..he makes about $3 million per show so he does 2 shows and he is out of the problem. Hmm. Sure doesn’t sound like a problem to me. If you worked for 2 days, would your money woes be cured? OK then…..
Now, how come when we report on some Prince news like a a rehearsal track or something else huge, it is not being reported by media outlets? Is it because it is positive news and not negative news?
I am doing EVERYTHING in my power to gain the site more exposure. I am working out and putting time in the gym to get myself more “Hollywood” ready to do interviews, to do guest panels on tv/talk shows and putting myself out there a lot more than I have. My audience may be growing, but I am never satisfied and want to get that million+ a day pageviews. It’s hard when I do have a full time job I do during the day. It’s not like I am doing this from my parent’s basement. Think about how many stories I cover and a majority of the time, it is through my phone because I am not at a place that has Internet access.
Only if you comment more and spread the word about the site will that be possible for us to really be all we can be….

I don’t want to be a party pooper, but if the number of visitors is growing, how come (almost) no one is commenting? Except for the Prince and maybe the Michael Jackson posts?
I check out this site on a regular basis and sometimes I would like to leave some kind of response behind, but I don’t want to be the only one.
Second: I know you’re sympathetic towards a certain purple iconic figure, who – as of the last couple of weeks- was in the news because of financial, legal, website issues, it even made some national news outlets – in and out of the US.
But I’ve read nothing about it on this site.
From a journalistic point of view I would think that even an entertainment site would try to keep some balance and report on bad news issues too, like is happening on this very same site with Tiger Woods or Sandra Bullock.
Now, one of the reasons I don’t like that prince.org (anymore) is what seems to be a disproportional ammount of vile members that are cheering at all the disasters the man has to go through. The balance is totally non existent there , and I don’t hope your site will put an emphasis on dirt or be the hangout for some frustrated erotomaniacal (former)fans who feel scorned by Prince.
But ignoring bad news is not good either …
Third: please don’t feel insulted by my criticism, it is meant to be constructive.
And I do like the friendly nature of your site.
