American Idol Drops Ball Not Having Adam Lambert On Queen Night

American Idol, trying to catch its Adam Lambert versus Kris Allen glory days, had a Queen night that did not feature Adam when it was obvious they really needed him.

Queen was there to see the top 6 perform their songs…..and what was missing was Adam Lambert with Queen to show them how it is done.

I watched the top 6 perform….and their are a couple of good voices but this season is lacking….and it needed an Adam Lambert to propel the show and make people care about it again.  People can argue numbers with me but Idol is not what it once was.

Adam may have finished 2nd in Idol the year he was on, but he was the true winner.  In hindsight, he is the real Idol.  The American Dream so to speak.

The good news is that Adam will be everywhere.  He just recorded AOL Sessions and will be on Jimmy Kimmel tonight.  He is also slated to be on Idol later this season.  There is NO reason, however, that he could not have been performing with Queen last night.

When I think of the top 3 on Idol, I think of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Adam Lambert.  He didn’t even win the show but we know why, don’t we middle America?   The Glamberts know, we know, and Adam knows and he is starting to talk about it just a little bit more.

The Voice and X Factor would not have dropped the ball having Queen on without Adam Lambert.  Idol was the show that started the singing contest craze, and when you do not have one of your own on to give him shine and on a season that has been lackluster and him having a new CD out, wel,l we know Simon Cowell is somewhere smiling, rooting for Adam and looking at those Idol ratings go down again for another week.-DocFB

Dr Funkenberry, I smiled at your comment about Simon (remembering the words he spoke to Adam after A had sung No Boundaries). Nice article, and so true. The show that night lacked the X Factor. What an opportunity AI missed.

I understand the sentiments of this article exactly and agree that Adam would have vastly improved the show and the ratings would have been enormous, but as much as I wanted to see Adam on Idol with Queen, I understand that Queen’s purpose was to promote and launch their new cover band in the US and Adam would have stolen the show and the cover band left in the dust. Queen also is very aware of the excitement and approval of Adam’s upcoming performances with them, the “actual Queen” that has the most significant meaning. Adam’s performance on Kimmel was very important for him, especially since he was cancelled after the AMAs . Kimmel also plays to a different audience and Adam needs that exposure. Queen has also given Adam credibility as a solid artist worthy to interpret their music. I also have a hard time listening to songs by the contestants that Adam has covered so extremely well. No one has been able to surpass him. A Change is Gonna Come is a song that Adam now owns for me. I also get annoyed when the judges so frequently stand for performances. It takes away the

Thank you for such honest and brave article. I 100 % agree with every word you said. Even the judges……lol, they are mostly cheer leaders not judges as they use to be. Our days , every contender is an “amazing artist”, they jump on their feet for each contender, they lost their credibility as judges. What a shame!

Adam is the best so since american Idol finish the season who Adam are in the competition never never the American Idol are be popular like when Adam’s perform there that season and Simon tell to USA you need to vote for Adam he have the talent, the voice the all package dont forget this is for the someone who have the talent…if you dont the american will make the most huge mistake etc etc…and it is that… nobody in USA love that when we told it was there mistakes oh no they just tell us they vote for the simple guy. PPfff the simple guy will be and stay the most simple winner on all Idol..

Idol wouldn’t have made it this far without Adam Lambert in it’s lineup. He saved the show, at least the could give him credit where and when it’s due.

Being a huge Adam Lambert fan and a 35+ year Queen fan, I’d like nothing more. But the point of this appearnace on Idol was to promote the Queen Extravaganza tour starting in a few weeks.

I get goosebumps every time I see or hear him
perform this with Queen. AI sure fouled the ball!!
Adam Lambert and Queen = Magic!!

Adam has moved on since AI in off the planet ways!
Prefer to look forward, towards the international Adam storm which
    is about to hit!

What a void without Adam. Loved seeing Brian and Rodger.
One wondered if those kids were aware of the incredible
honor it was for them to be on the same stage at two legends.
Adam will make his appearance in May in all his glory! Just
watch those ratings hit the roof then! AI has lived on borrowed
time since Adam. Sure Steven Tyler saved the show but without
    him it would go under.

Came across this article from a link on another fan site. I was feeling pretty ‘bummed’ that Idol decided to have someone other than ADAM on their QUEEN show but my hubby & I agree with you all … ADAM would have stolen the show & the contestants would all have paled in comparison. Please!! I hope I NEVER hear Bohemian Rhapsody sung by a female again!! Nor The Show Must Go ON!! They all tried but … IMO … failed!! I will watch Idol one more time when ADAM guest stars … after that … who cares!! Sorry!! JMO

Great article and agree with you 100%. AI is so afraid or should I say Nigel is afraid that if Adam performed w Queen last night it would have made his little darlings look pale in comparison. Adam is just so much better than that show or any other singing talent show in existence. I have tried to be open minded since S8 and give new talent a chance but sorry there is just no comparison. Adam is so far above the level of anyone even some so called pop stars who get played on radio so much we are screaming “NO NOT AGAIN” and we just shut off the radio. Adam’s new album will make every other album in past 10 years and presently look mediocre. Just my opinion.

I was so disappointed with the six contestants singing with Queen. They did an adequate job on the individual songs, but I so wanted Adam there. He isn’t a clone of Freddie at all. His vocals are so incredible for Queen music. I know he can’t be there due to his schedule and Queen wanting to display their tribute band. Adam needs to be promoting his new song on Idol so I get it. But I’m still bummed. I don’t care what America says, Adam is phenomenal and one of the best ever on IDOL. I wish radio America would play his music. Thanks for the article.

Thank you for this article, you rock !!!
I watched idol last night and like most of you watched them kids butcher legendary songs by one of the most influential Rock bands of all time, I immediately turned to YouTube for the comparison! Wait…there is no comparison, nobody will ever hit them notes like Adam Lambert or shall I say : there will never be an Idol like Adam Lambert, I so wish he sang on idol last night but as someone else said: he would’ve stolen the show and wouldn’t be fair to the contestants but than who cares, they’re going nowhere except for Jessica and maybe Skyler will do well on Country, the rest will join Crystal, Lee , Taylor, Rubin etc, bough said 🙂

I agree with all the other comments. Adam is, and will always be, THE American Idol.

We all know Adam is the true Idol, not only did he break the mold, he has grown by leaps and bounds since 2009. Just listen to the Trespassing snippets, you’ll hear the difference right away. I always knew he would be a star, from the first moment I saw him, but even more so after the Fantasy Springs Whole Lotta Love performance. It was off the chain, and so is he.

I think Idol didn’t want him on because he would’ve embarrassed the contestants. They were awful trying to cover Queen.

I can’t really agree here for a couple reasons: First, this was about honoring Queen music and challenging the young Idol folks to sing music they probably never heard before. Second, no singer of our generation can touch Adam Lambert’s interpretation of these songs. Queen and Adam Lambert will soon get the world’s attention, and I hope they decide to do a couple stops in the USA. Adam is super busy, and he will perform on Idol probably during semi-finals, and he will be performing HIS music.

AMEN, AMEN, AMEN..had to come back here to add a few more words…I am seriously hoping that Adam at least gets a MENTION tonight on the results show, although I’m not holding my breath on that. It would make perfect sense for Idol to maximize their credibility as a reality show that theoretically discovers true talent that is relevant to music today by tooting both their own horn and Adam’s horn, so to speak, and let viewers know that Adam is doing very well, thank you, and doing some shows with this little legendary band called “Queen”, because they find Adam to be more than worthy. Thankfully, Adam will be on the show in May (rumored to be the 17th..but not confirmed yet..) to promote his new music and will again remind the world of why he is so special..I certainly hope he is given the opportunity to mention his Queen connection then if not this week..Thanks for this great article!

You are so right, they didn’t even mention his name, those 2 seconds of showing him in the finale were missed if you blinked! They should be bragging how one of their idols is fronting the band this year to publisze the fact that see, the show does produce stars insteading of blatantly ignoring it! Reason why I don’t watch the show anymore! I just tuned in thinking they would have something on Adam, I should have known!

Apology for my type errors. Usually I am quite good in this area… not sure what happened. I instinctively know believe is BELIEVE. etc. Please read my post, and not my mistakes-the message is far more important that a typo.
