Drfunkenberry.com artist Orianthi performed her top 20 smash “According To You”  on American Idol last night and debuted a new hair ‘do.

We are so proud of Orianthi for gracing the stage of American Idol and don’t forget she will be on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno tonight, which also features Janet Jackson.

Orianthi will perform on this week’s American Idol this Wednesday March 17th.

We broke the news exclusively on Friday to our Twitter Followers and our Facebook Fan Page  as Fox did not want to make the official announcement  on the site til Monday, so we snuck to our followers because they didn’t say we couldn’t. 

Orianthi will be performing “According To You” on the show, which is slowly creeping up the charts that used to matter, The Billboard Charts and is sitting at Number 17 right now.  She has been on Funkenberry Radio’s Top 21 for quite a while now. 

When we interviewed Orianthi a few weeks back, she let us know that she recorded an updated version of “Stairway To Heaven” by led Zeppelin with Mary J. Blige and guitar God Steve Vai. 

ALSO, Orianthi will be performing  on this Thursday’s “Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and that performance should be hot as well. Janet Jackson will be a guest on the show.  As you all should know, Orianthi was due to play with Janet’s brother, Michael Jackson (You might have heard of him) before his untimely death.  She is all over the documentary “This Is It” which is now out on DVD.

Even in the movie “School of Rock”, Jack Black couldn’t pull off a cool cameo like this one.

Yesterday, Adam Lambert stopped in at Belvedere Middle School in East Los Angeles, where he surprised 45 lucky Contemporary Rock class students with a Q&A chat and this fun, jam session. Adam sang a scaled down version of his hit “Whatya Want From Me”, backed by musicians from the class.

Adam’s visit was part of his ongoing efforts to champion music education programs in public schools. He recently rallied his fans to help raise $300,000 to fund musical instruments for needy schools.

Former American Idol contestant Chris Golightly

American Idol contestant Chris Golightly was dropped from the top group of 24 yesterday. A source close to the show says he was dropped due to “lack of veracity”, e.g. a lack of truthfulness. Yahoo! reports:

The person said Thursday that Golightly didn’t disclose that he’d had a music contract, a point on which all contestants are queried because the show doesn’t include singers with current contracts. It was Golightly’s failure to mention the contract, not whether it was in force, that led to his departure, the person said.

I’m not watching Idol very closely but I think Golightly was well liked and had a good chance on the show. Are you watching Idol and if so, is this disappointing? -Dr.FB

Jason Castro made top 5 of American Idol 2 years ago and then….disappeared.   The dread locked singer who wowed has been laying low until now.

Jason is set to play the Hotel Cafe this wednesday in Los Angeles and if things go according to plan, Dr.Funkenberry will be interviewing Jason and bringing you guys exclusive footage and photos of him and his performance.

Ellen Degeneres will have her American Idol debut tonight as she takes over for Paula Abdul in the judge’s chair. 

We hear there was some friction with Simon Cowell early and often and if we do watch it, it will be for that reason only.   Will the chemistry be the same or will this be a worse replacement than Conan was for Leno? 

So, I ask you this as the dust has settled on the whole Paula thing, will you watch American Idol tonight with Ellen or be like Drew Brees and pass?-Dr.FB

Throw in some Led Zeppelin, a dash of Beastie Boys and top if off with a touch of Living Colour and you may end up with the sound in this new song, “Ride to California” from the band Paper Tongues. I think this is one you’ll either quickly funk or dunk, with no inbetween.

It’s an in your face sound which seems to match lead singer Aswan North’s bravado. He interrupted American Idol judge and music producer Randy Jackson at lunch in an L.A. restaurant, pushed aside his plate, and laid down his MySpace address and cell number. When Jackson asked him what he was doing, North said “I don’t know, you tell me coach, I’m just trying to learn how to make the layup.” -Dr.FB
