Exclusive! Rehearsal Jam! PRINCE & The NPG “Old Friends 4 Sale” Listen Now!!!

Wow. While rehearsing for his “Welcome 2 Chicago” tour dates, Prince & The NPG along with his 11 piece horn section, Prince sent in this beautiful and powerful rendition of “Old Friends 4 Sale” that is stunning to the ears.

To my knowledge, this song has never been performed live. Some of you may know the history of the song, being recorded in the 80’s, and before an official version was released in the late 90’s, the lyrics were changed. The story goes that the lyrics were too personal, so they were changed. There is a lyric change here as well.

If this is the kind of songs and instrumentation that Chicago can look forward to, these shows are going to be amazing.

I would like to thank PRINCE & The NPG for allowing us to share this with you exclusively. Absolutely beautiful. Very nice.

What do you think of the rehearsal jam of “Old Friends 4 Sale” by PRINCE & The NPG?-DocFB

This version was Amazing. I do like the original version better just because the lyrics seemed more heart felt. It blows my mind how people can be so critical of an artist like Prince who is constantly evolving and doing work that moves them. I’ve literally have been to over 400 concerts and seen artist from just about every genre you can think of. Prince can play hits for days. He can play deep tracks for years. Either way SOME ASSHOLE will complain. It’s like people criticizing Tiger would for not winning every golf tourney when they have not every hit a golf ball. I personally love the tours that support the new recording because you get the both of both worlds. I did love those days when he would play hits and then play the rare tracks later at the second show.

Man, I’ll be glad when Prince spends a few nights in the studio again-this welcome tour (I saw mine’s in NYC) has not produced anything new for me. And if I hear purple rain again…I’m going to wake up Michael Jackson!!!

Not Good. Studio version was better for this one listen track. Sometimes it seems that Prince thinks that ‘just because we love him’-he can fart and we’ll breath it all in. Com’on Prince; GIVE US ANOTHER MIRACLE…and leave the fat in the vault!

You know what? You can be very happy that Prince is constantly on tour in America. We are reading so many reviews here – thank you 4 that. Prince is so rare in Europe, I can tell. And it’s really no fun chasing for tickets (and then at the End the sound is bad).

Me, my sister and a close friend attended Monday nights concert and it was really good. I kind of figured there were some issues going on; maybe technical or otherwise, but in the end Prince & The NPG rocked the house. I wished I had known about the people who held Monday night tickets could come to Wednesday’s performance, but it’s cool. We had a great time Monday. My sister and I were acting a plum fool, LOL. I guess because it was our first Prince concert. It was really sweet and cool of Prince to come to Chicago and to be involved with the Rebuild the Dream Foundation.

I agree with Kyle. The song was more heartfelt and is much better with just Prince singing. As far as Welcome2chicago shows- The Monday night show and the no-show after show were a fiasco but Tuesday was awesome and The last night, Wednesday was one of the best concerts of Prince’s that I have ever attended. Monday night was riddled with problems that were beyond Prince and the NPG’s control. At the after set on Tuesday Prince apologized for Monday night and then told the Monday night ticketholders that they could come to the concert free on Wednesday. Prince is a class act and Chicago will smell the stink from his Welcome2Chicago shows for years to come. He and the NPG are to be commended–They brought the funk.

I love this song. I had a copy of it back in 92. @Kyle, you need to check the reviews again. Everyone that I know and trust went to the shows the following days and say Prince was very much on point. They get got all the kinks out playing in a new arena. Like a friend from college just posted “Prince, still one of the best that ever done it”.

all promise with little fulfillment. the reviews are in from chicago – the monday night show started off strong then fizzled to a disappointing finish. it’s just a shame – this rehearsal reminds us how strong he can be – if he was still doing art – and not just touring non-stop and becoming a funk retrospective. where’s the challenging art? where’s the music that makes you stop what you’re doing in order to better pay attention. it’s a pity really. i will say this – i love this song, in pretty much all of it’s incarnations – but the backing vocalists do not do anything to add to the tune. it’s a better song when it’s just prince singing – more harrowing and heartfelt.

As if there ever was any doubt at his greatness, our darlin lil Prince delivers a soulful grove Like an early christmas gift or did someone say it’s “my birthday”. If I were able i’d give him a rose of gold to show what he means to me. Sure he’s done some funked up chit, but if everyone only knew the deepness of such actions as writing “slave” upon his face there would be no doubt. There might be screams for emancipation rather then the buzzkill sound of snoring zees as a world mind sleeps in a nightmared dream they are lulled into waking up from. Yet, the light fills the cold chill sky as the darkness flees away from the landscape at the breaking of the new Dawn.

    Dear Prince:

    i love you. Thank you.

Git bak d band stuff and arrangements on on record and leave them new demo style tracks in the vault. Trust your instincts and go for the live vibe.
