Lenny Kravitz is set to perform at the CMT Awards tonight and at rehearsal moments ago, Lenny Kravitz sound-checked "When U Were Mine", the PRINCE classic.
He also sound checked "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" by Sly & The Family Stone!
You know we have already asked for audio of it but it looks like it wasn't recorded sadly.
He will not be performing either of the songs on the award show.-DocFB
Diagnosis: CMT Going to get rocked tonight!!!!!
If you can believe it, Sly & the Family Stone have not had a career-spanning box set...until now. On August 27th, that all changes with the release of "Higher".
The box set will be a four disc collection with 77 tracks, 17 that have never been released before. The set does center around the years of 19-68-75 and will feature mono MASTER versions of songs like “Everyday People”, “Stand!”, and “I Want To Take You Higher”.
There will be rare demos, instrumental tracks, television and live recordings, also songs Stone’s August 1970 gig at the Isle of Wight Festival.
There is also 7 pre-Epic records tracks including a heavily bootlegged version of "I Can't Turn You Loose" by Otis Redding.
The set will come with a 100+ page booklet mostly written by Jeff Kaliss that will feature liner notes essays, a timeline of Stone's career, rare and uncirculating photos including concert posters and ticket stubs.

A new interview with Andy Allo talks about "Superconductor"'s distribution, chitlins, The Chappelle Show Prince basketball skit, and more!
The DJ's at KSFM tried to label Andy as Prince's girlfriend, but had them "slow their roll" as she said they were just friend's. After they got the Prince question out of the way, they were able to concentrate on her and the upcoming "Superconductor" album, her influences,
Here is part one, where they talk about Prince, the Chappelle Show, and Andy's Basketball skills.
In part two, Andy talks about her influences, Nina Simone, Sly & The Family Stone, and even throws in some Ice Cube for good measure. They also talk about how long she has been a singer and how the DJ scared beautiful women. She also touches base on distribution and how Universal is interested.
And in part 3, they play a slightly longer version of "People Pleaser" than you have heard before. She talks about working on "Superconductor" with Prince, Maceo Parker, The Hornheadz, and THE NPG and the DJ wanting to add some triangle to the album. We also find out that the album is planned to be 9 songs.
All in all, a very good interview as we found out more about "Superconductor" and Andy is having some fun. We hear there might be some coverage of Andy in the local Sacramento paper and a cover story as well before things get kicked off in the national spotlight.
Check out the interview above and let us know what you think.-DocFB
Sly Stone is in a rehab facility for 30 days and will spend 60 more days in there to avoid jail time. While Herman Cain cops a feel, Sly copped a plea.
Sly was arrested earlier this year in April for being in possession of cocaine while doing a search of his vehicle.
He pleaded no contest to the charges on Tuesday and agreed to the sentencing of 60 more days in rehab other than jail time.
Stone has said when he gets out of rehab, he hopes to return to his music career and work with Lady Gaga along with others.
We are pulling for Sly......we just hope it is not the same song and dance for someone so legendary.-DocFB
Diagnosis: Drugs are bad....OK?
We can confirm that Sly Stone has entered rehab over the weekend and when he gets out, he wants to record with Lady Gaga.
This was the statement released to drfunkenberry.com regarding his checking into rehab;
"Sly wants to get clean, and stay sober. Sly has fallen on very hard times in the past few years. Sly will be in rehab for at least the next 90 days, and he is committed to getting sober."
So, after Sly gets out, he wants to record with Lady Gaga. He stated in September that he has hundreds of tracks newly recorded that Gaga could use.
"I see all the guys playing those old songs. Let these guys know, like Lady Gaga, let me come in, just let me come in and pay me if you like it."
Stone recently admitted last month that he is homeless, by choice it seems, living on the streets of Crenshaw.
We really hope the 8th time is the charm for Sly. It is truly heartbreaking to see a legend like him not able to beat and battle his demons.-DocFB
Diagnosis: Gaga And Sly? Hmm.
Larry Graham received the lifetime achievement award from Bass Player Live last night and talked about Sly & The Family Stone.
Larry talked about how he met Sly Stone and how the band came to exist as Sly & The Family Stone.
Here is Larry Graham performing with his band after his speech. Funky indeed. Trust me, we have more coming too.-DocFB
Diagnosis: We call him Graham cause he funky like that.
This is seriously no joke; Sly Stone is homeless. Regardless if he does not mind, one of the great musical pioneers of the 60's and 70's is living in a van in Los Angeles.
I know through the years, several have reached out to Sly but he has not taken their help. Holly Robinson Peete was pleading via Twitter for Sly to live with her. Seriously.
I have been trying to find this white van that the NY Post had found in Los Angeles. What I can tell you is that family members say is it Sly's decision to live in the van. Yes, he is broke due to his drug habit and also bad business decisions.
This is hard for me. This is what happens when you do not respect money but also like Rick James used to say "cocaine is a hell of a drug."
We all know Sly's music. We have heard it in our soul. In movies. In stupid car commercials. HE sold his publishing rights in the 1980's and Michael Jackson bought them for considerably less than what they were worth.
Sly believes he is on his way to a musical comeback and does not want to live in one place, but this is too much.
We have to ask, does Sly even want the help of "Everyday People" right now? This is not living. This is not funk. This is not happiness. Right?-DocFB
