Billboard Editor Slams Lady Gaga For Questionable Promotion Of “Applause”

Billboard YouTube Photo: baeblemusic.com

Billboard editor Bill Werde is taking aim at Lady Gaga for what he feels is unfair and questionable promotion for her latest single "Applause" with a contest and a link that allowed you to watch her new video 150 times in a row.

Billboard is taking exception to the tweet she has since deleted where it allowed you to watch the "Applause" video 150 times in a row on YouTube. YouTube views now count towards chart positions so Billboard is upset that she was trying to manipulate the charts. Gaga and other Interscope acts had views taken away from them late last year as Billboard was about to implement the views into chart positions.

Also, Gaga was and still is asking for her fans to buy multiple digital copies of "Applause" along with screen shots of radio requests, selfies/video and the fan who did it the most would be flown out to see her perform at the iTunes Festival in London.

Bill Werde took to Twitter to explain his frustration with Gaga.

Billboard To Start Counting YouTube Views: “Harlem Shake” Hits #1 Under New Rules

Billboard YouTube Photo: baeblemusic.com

"Harlem Shake" was a song that had 18,000 downloads last year when it was released. 18,000 when it was a FREE download. 4,000 YouTube videos were made for the song just last week, and it had over a 100 million YouTube views, and 262,000 PAID downloads and is now number 1 on the Billboard Charts after not charting at all when it was first released.

Billboard made a ballsy move last week that was being discussed behind the scenes for almost 2 years with YouTube. The writing was on the wall when YouTube started taking away millions of hits from artists like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber, stating the hit count was fabricated.

Psy had a huge hit with "Gangnam Style"..but only hit number 2 on the Billboard Charts. This move would have moved Psy into number 1 where he most likely would have ruled the charts for months. The video itself along with other people's videos will now count towards the Billboard Charts.

Make no mistake; this move had to happen. With MTV, VH1, and BET rarely playing music videos, YouTube became the outlet to get videos out. Video play on TV used to play a huge part in the 80's and 90's with the video channels where the times it played could impact if the song made it into the top 10 or not.

Most of the "Harlem Shake" videos are 30-35 seconds in length and Billboard will need to incorporate if there is going to be minimum of how long a song needs to be to count towards the charts.

Although "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis was the most downloaded trakc with over 400,000 download sales, it could not compete with the viralness (Yes, we are making up words) of the "Harlem Shake" this week.

This needed to be done but they are going to need to change certain things like length of the videos make. The system could easily be manipulated with several large fan communities like Bieber or Gaga asking their fans to make videos for their songs.

I applaud Billboard for making their charts relevant again and talked about all at once. They are going to also find a way to find out which songs are the most "social media active" on Twitter and others without it being paid for like back in the day.-DocFB

Is “One Pound Fish” The 2013 Version Of “Gangnam Style”?

"Gangnam Style" has reached over 1 billion views on YouTube. "One Pound Fish", which is likened to "Style" has just under 12 million views in less than a month.

Muhammad Shahid Nazir, who sings "One Pound Fish", is a 31 year old Pakistani fish seller at Queens Market In London.

"Have a, have a look, one pound fish. Very, very good, one pound fish," which in U.S. Dollars is $1.60 for those wondering.

He made his own video earlier last year and put it on YouTube. As it became a viral sensation, Warner Music approached Muhammad to make a techno-dance infused version of his video. The outcome you can see above. The original version is posted below.

"One Pound Fish changed my whole life," Nazir, who returned to Pakistan last week to a hero's welcome, told the Associated Press. "I am so happy now."

Muhammad will be in the U.S. shortly to promote the song and video here.-DocFB

Rihanna Goes For Youtube Record With New Video “Where Have You Been”

Rihanna let it be known as soon as her video for "Where Have You Been" was released that she wanted the most views ever in 1 day.

The video received over 1 million views in that time which we are sure is impressive but did not eclipse the record of others. Maybe next time, release it on a Thursday/Friday where your fans will have the time to watch a video, that is not exactly groundbreaking, again and again.

That is not to say we do not like it. It is visually stunning, but one of her best songs. What do you think of the video?-DocFB
