In a french interview, Prince talked about Michael Jackson and was asked about his death and how he felt about it.

The  english translation was posted on Prince.org, a Prince fan web site and here is a few quotes;

“When I played in London in 2007, the O ² Arena, I asked the producers what had been the record number of shows played consecutively in their venue. They said six. I said that I wanted to do twenty-one. During two weeks they refused me, nobody had ever played for so long. All concerts were nevertheless sold out. Since then, Michael Jackson showed me that I should go farther.”

When asked about performing the Jacksons “Shake Your Body Down To The Ground”, Prince added;

“My singer Elisa has the same timbre as Michael when he was young. And a good song is a good song.”

Lastly, the question that many people were wanting to know; How did Prince feel about the death of Michael Jackson?

(Prince, obviously reluctant, does not want to dwell on the subject.) “It is always sad to lose someone you loved.”

Well, there you have it. What do you think of Prince’s comment(s) regarding Michael Jackson?-Dr.FB

    PRINCE IS BETTER THAN MJ & MORE TALENTED THAN HIM ALSO. OF COURSE THESE TWO ARE BIGGER THAN ANY RAPPER BUT THEIR SITUATION IS LIKE NAS & JAY Z. JAY Z IS MORE FAMOUS & RICHER THAN NAS BUT NAS IS AN BETTER ARTIST/RAPPER THAN JAY Z. NAS IS A POET WHILE JAY IS A PUPPET. PRINCE CAN PLAY MANY INSTRUMENTS & CAN DO MORE MUSICALLY THAN MJ CAUSE HE ACTUALLY LIVES AND BREATHE MUSIC WHILE MJ WAS FORCED TO.

    A lotta MJ fans have a hard time coming to grips with the fact that there are artists that are way way more talented than MJ, MUSICALLY, THAT IS. Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins and the list goes on and on. Iam myself a Mke fan and even if Mike were the least talented artist, in the eyes of everybody else, which is not the case, I wouldn´t give a crap, I like the guy regardless of what the critics might say. Music is to be enjoyed. Everything else we could say about one artrist or another falls in the realm of opinions. Opinions never certify something as true. Im not a music critic, however my opinion is that many artists might be more talented than MJ musically, but perfomance-wise , no one touches him. For ya´ll who are ignorant of the fact that Michael knew how to play certain instruments, check the sleevenotes of his later CDs. He may not have concetrated on instruments like Price did, but he knew his way around in the studio. What Michael focussed on was becoming the greatest performer ever, and in my opinion he got there or came pretty close to that. For all the talent Prince has, I could only listen to a few songs, which doesn´t mean he´s not talented, by the accounts of most people who are knowledgeable about music he is, but that escapes. Just remember that ther is no accounting for taste. Just one more thing , Michael has touched the world in a way that no other artist including Prince has or will, just don´t forget that , that´s the mystery

    Ok, let me clear a few things up….first and foremost, Prince was offered to do a duet with Michael for the song Bad, as said by Quincy Jones on the Bad Special Edition CD, Prince turned the offer down, saying something like “You have a hit there without me” maybe not word for word but pretty close. Also Prince was offered a spot on the USA for Africa track We Are The World, his part was right with Michael’s, and yet Prince turned it down, to only put on a single track seperately, on the album. That being said there were many chances for the two to work together with Michael and his producers or whoever trying to get Prince, but Prince kept turning them down for one reason or the other. I know it sucks as it would have been awesome as hell, but that is the truth. Now I will say this plainly, i have been a huge MJ fan since the age of 3, and will always be a big fan of him, I was heartbroken to hear he died. But at the same time I think Prince is one of the most musically gifted artists out there and I respect and like hit music. As for the comment he made it was honestly vague, to say the least but I think it is the most you will every get out of him in response to Michael’s death. The question was raised did they both “like” or respect each other, I think there is and was no doubt that the both respected each other, whether they were friends or not I am not too sure, but I know that each had high respect for the other’s work. With all that said, I have been trying to buy more Prince albums to get a better overall feel for his music and style, and I must say that to compare these two is very wrong, they are both great. Anyways I am done ranting and raving just wanted to comment on this.

    I THINK THAT PRINCE IS SORRY TO KNOW THAT MICHAEL JACKSON HAS PASSED AWAY. I THINK THAT AS MUCH AS THE WORLD TRIES TO FIND A REASON TO SAY HE DIDN’T LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON, REALLY I BELIVED THAT THEY HAD A LOVE FOR EACH OTHER AS HUMANBEINGS AND AS ENTERTAINERS. HE ADMIRED MICHAEL JACKSON FOR THE PERFORMER HE IS. AND MICHAEL JACKSON ADIMIRED PRINCE’S GENIUS AS AN ARTIST AS WELL. UNFORTUNATELY THEY NEVER GOT A CHANCE TO COMBINE THEIR TALENTS. PRINCE I KNOW THAT YOU ARE SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE PASSING OF YOUR BROTHER ENTERTAINER. GOD BLESS YOU AND PEACE.

    its funny how everybody is now on mj nuts since he died but when he was living everybody called him weird or a child molester and as far as prince is concern he isn’t worried about what people say about him. p.s. they were good friends

    Comparing Michael Jackson and Prince is like comparing apples and oranges. It’s not even the same thing. Each artist has his own quality. While Prince may have been more proficient w/musical instruments, Michael may have been a natural at dancing…we could go on forever like that. Each had his own style, and his own way of reaching their audiences. Each of them is a brilliant talent the likes of which will probably never will be seen again. And both were about giving us the best fxcking show they possibly could.
    I think the answer Prince gave WAS a tiny bit vague… but, as others have previously stated, he is not one to talk about personal things–he plays those feelings pretty close to the vest. His statement sez something succinct but sincere. And his relative silence on the matter actually speaks volumes of the reverence he had for Michael, IMHO.
    I have always been a huge fan of both, and never preferred one over the other. They both influenced me lyrically, and showed me what makes a brilliant showman. I felt like a piece of me died along with Michael. I probably will feel same when Prince is gone. I’m sure others echo the same sentiment.
    What matters in the end is how an artist touches your life…that’s all an artist really wants when you strip it all down…to get their audiences to react in their own ways to their art. They may like it or hate it but when there’s indifference, then you’ve failed to touch anyone. No-one can say Michael didn’t touch them somehow, even if it was just that you believed the accusations about him. He affected you in some fashion anyway.
    Those of you who are waiting for Prince to have a bigger reaction will be waiting a long time. It just isn’t his style, and I’m satisfied w/what he said.

    You can see that video own youtube. Also I wonder how many of the MJ defenders had his back when he needed it the most ! Or how many made jokes about him when he was facing all that crap ! You did not love him then the way you love him now I’m sure !!!!!! Half of you could’nt even understand the brillance of Prince song let alone have MJ’s back when they were trying to bring him down. I’m with Prince no matter what you say or do they will use it against you . It’s never good enough.

    Amazing how stupid people can be. They were friends !!!!!!! They were both at a James Brown concert together in the 80’s ; Michael came on stage did his best JB impersonation and his own stuff then told JB that Prince was there also. Then he went on stage and did his thing ! All you negative bloggers get a clue ! The man said someone you love . What else does he have to say.

    Wow…There are some harsh, harsh comments on this board. I agree with everyone who writes that there is no need to speak negatively of either entertainer. They are both extreme musical talents. I love them both. Please stop judging world. Some say it’s good to live life without regrets, but I have a few. One is that I never did see Michael in concert…I regret that. I’ve seen Prince in concert 3 times and words can’t describe either of my experiences….He’s one of the greatest performers. I’m hanging framed, poster-sized portraits of Michael and Prince in my home office. There’s room for both of these musical geniuses in my heart.

    1. For those comparing Michael Jackson to Prince. Prince plays at least 27 instruments proficiently and is considered a virtuoso of the guitar. He writes, arranges, and produces his own music. Michael Jackson was had a great voice and was a great performer and I like them both but from a pure musician and musical level Prince stands above Michael.

    2. I fail to comprehend what all the controversy is on this board about Prince stating that it is sad anytime you lose somebody you love. I mean, for God’s sake what was he supposed to do break down in tears, do a split, and hop in his magic purple sled so he could fly across the sky shoot fireworks over Neverland? Get real people.

    Peace.

    If you know Prince’s history, he is NOT the one to get personal in public. for him to say what he has said. I appreciate. I understand Prince. Don’t know him, but been a supporter since Soft and Wet and seen him 6 times in concert.

    It’s stupid that people speculate about everything….Maybe that’s the reason why Prince does some of the stuff he does because he knows how much people sit up and speculate over stuff when there’s no need. Another thing I don’t get is why must people get on here and say negative stuff about either one of them? Plain and simple none of us know how either one felt about each other…so it’s really not that important.

    The bottom line is that it’s a shame that these two greats never got a chance to work together. I think they both amired each other a great deal, and Prince’s former driummer Bobby Z even said that Mike and Prince were cool with each other and often played Ball together at Paisley Park.

    I think it’s kind of pitiful when you’re 51 years of age and you still haven’t grown out of your shyness, or outer shell, especially with the talent Prince has and the achievements he’s made.

    Ladies and Gents, no matter the words that have been quoted (which are properly respectful, IMO), Prince speaks with his music. As a lover of both songs, I found the mixing of Mountains’ wide-open, winsome fairytale sound with Shake Your Body’s celebratory chorus was exquisite; a very fine tribute. Prince’s rhythm passing seemlessly through handclaps into Michael’s (and Randy’s I think?).

    Only thing better would have been Prince to sing it instead, but that’s arguable..

    Remembering its the fans that make the talents of MJ and Prince what they are – it cant be easy being that talented and right up there on top of the world to be judged and pulled apart on every comment – i dont blame Prince for being quite… he cares about whats important to him his love for making Music and that shows through his execptional talent… both these artists were naturally gifted and put to use in their maximum capacity – there are many talented who do not perserve and are never found out – wasted!!! We are fortunate for them and they are where they are through the support of fans, so there is no need to even question whos better than who… they are unique and therefore as good as one another…the comment he made is lovely – what has bothered alot of us fans is the reason he waited 4 months before he even mentioned it. the world is watching – do you even care!!! maybe when you get that great you think u can get away with your actions – but everything has repercussions and we witness this in both their lives….

    i really don’t understand why people keep comparing Prince and Michael, saying who’s better than the other. What’s the point of that? We should all be greatful for these 2 amazing geniuses. I’ve loved Michael my whole life and he will forever have a special place in my heart but that does not mean I can’t like Prince as well. There’s more than enough room in the world of arts for both of them, especially in these times where true passion and talent is a rarity. I envy all of you that have had the chance to experience the magic of these 2 beautiful artists. We should appreciate what we have because the true arts are dying and it truly saddens me…

    I LOVED MICHEAL AND HIS MUSIC AND CONTRIBUTION TO THE WORLD AS IN HIS FOUNDATIONS, AND HIS WORK WITH CHILDREN……

    BUT U MUST BE A PRINCE BE4 UR A KING(NO DISRESPECT TO MICHEAL) MICHEAL WAS BAD AND STILL IS. THINK ABOUT IT, MICHEAL STARTED AT THE VERY EARLY AGE OF 5 (I BELIEVE )BUT PRINCE CAME ALONG AT 17 AND PLAYED EVERYTHING ON HIS FIRST TWO ALBUMS… JUST LIKE A STATEMENT WAS MADE, U CAN NOT COMPAIRE THE TWO. MICHEAL IS THE KING, (NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT!) BUT PRINCE IS JUST A GENIUS AND I’M GLAD TO HAVE HAD 1 ICON HERE AND NOW GONE TO BE WITH GOD!
