It is time for #tbt #ThrowbackThursday with "Freakshow On The Dance Floor" by the Bar-Kays.
"Freakshow On The Dance Floor" made it as high as number 73 on the Billboard Hot 100 but number #2 on the R&B charts.
The Bar-Kays had their first performance in late 1967 by being Odis Redding's backing band. It was only in 1973 that band really started funkin' it up and started to be known as a funk band.-DocFB

In the middle of the night, this FUNK landed in our inbox along with this message.....
On April 17, 2012, several bystanders in the streets of Chanhassen, Minnesota saw Paisley Park swaying back and forth 2 the sound of "Days of Wild and Loose". This is a copy of the 19 minute rehearsal of that jam!

Wow. Just...wow. What do U all think?-DocFB
Ahh, Funk is making its own "comeback" although we know it has never left. From a WWE wrestler calling himself "The Funkasauras" and Clipper basketball player Blake Griffen requesting Funk in his ride, and now, the Funkytown debates being televised on CSPAN...well...not really.
Saturday Night Live had a fun and funky skit this week with Will Ferrell along with Usher wanting to be the mayor of Funkytown. It was a skit that I enjoyed more than "What's Up With That" although we wonder why they had Jay Pharoh be the one to wear the diaper in this skit.
Now, the only thing Saturday Night Live needs to do is bring funk to this generation. What do we mean? You don't need the outlandish outfits to be funky. Funk knows no color, and I will not be rocking an outfit like tasty turkey.
Bottom line, we digged the skit and are looking forward to more. We know that Fred could easily give us a shout-out too. Ahem.-DocFb
New Prince protegé Andy Allo is letting it be known that "Sumthin' FUNKY comin' this WEEK!" and wanting to know if we are ready. Answer? Funk yea!
Andy took to her Twitter page today to ask that question. Click the photo above for the full image.
It has not even been a year since we saw Andy Allo perform with Prince at the Troubadour show in Los Angeles, a gig that L.A. Weekly named the concert of the year.
Prince did 2 shows that night. The first show, Andy Allo performed "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye. The second show, Andy performed "Wait In Vain" by Bob Marley with Prince providing background vocals. That is the moment we became a fan of Andy Allo.
We unfortunately did not see Andy perform with Prince at any of his remaining L.A. Forum residence shows, but he took Andy on the road with him to Europe and to Canada last year, where she became a member of his band, The New Power Generation.
We have heard rumors that Andy has recorded new material with Prince recently. During the European tour, she posted songs on her Facebook Fan Page that appeared to be recorded with Prince including covers of his songs "Guitar", "We Can Funk" (rechristened "Oui Can Luv") and a cover of "Love Is A Losing Game" by Amy Winehouse.
We don't know yet exactly what "FUNKY" thing Andy is bringing but color us purple and very interested.-DocFB

Larry Graham performed at the Bass Player Live Awards in October, and gave us a lesson in funk. Bass funk especially.
The man is timeless and brought the funk big time. We are excited to share this footage we took with you and hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
In HD, for your viewing pleasure.-DocFB
Diagnosis: His name is......
I am sooooo loving this! It has 80's funk and new wave all over it. Hard to believe this song is new.
"Don't Turn The Lights On" is the latest song from Chromeo and I will be surprised if you don't like this jam. It is from the upcoming CD "Business Casual" and should be hot as well.
So.....Funk it or Dunk it?
