Is Prince About To Drop A New CD Called “The L/C”?

Prince. The L/C NPG Records 2011

Prince. The L/C NPG Records 2011

1st,we hope you have been going to Andy Allo’s Facebook Fan Page like we told you to a couple of days ago for more goodies.  She has posted a live version of Prince performing “Stratus” from last night and some exclusive photos of her and Prince as well.

Ok, on that acoustic version of “Guitar” we posted the other day, there was some data attached to it.  The photo above was attached and the information below saying it is from a project called “The L/C” featuring Prince and Andy Allo.  Here is a screen cap;

Meta Data Of Acoustic "Guitar" track

Meta Data Of Acoustic "Guitar" track

This comes on the heels of Prince telling “The Guardian” and others that he will no longer be recording or releasing any new material.  Very interesting.

The track sounds liked a jam session between Prince and Andy Allo, stripped down to its roots to even let a little bit of the recording process in as Prince and Allo interact within the track.  We have posted it again below for your listening pleasure.

[audio:http://www.drfunkenberry.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/guitar.mp3]

We have not contacted Prince’s reps for this as the artwork and meta still remain on the track posted a couple of days ago.  So, what do you guys think this is for and what do you think “The L/C” stands for?-Dr.FB

Diagnosis:  You Don’t Want To Know What I Think “The L/C” Stands for!

And YES…Estelle, Rihanna, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Wynter Gordon, Fergie and Kelis! Have you not heard all the many hits and songs they’ve all made? They’re all played on radio in the clubs. They’ve all tapped into their zone with the help of mega-talented writers and producers. Don’t see Bria Valente, Tamar Davis doing that. Not that they don’t have talent but a certain songwriter/producer has created a “zone” for them that left them off the radio and dance floors. Probably doesn’t help that Prince isn’t with a major label or with a top management, distribution or promotion firm.

I don’t mean to compare Prince and his vast musicology and discography and songwriting history with Will.I.Am. I merely meant to point out that Will.I.Am in the past decade has produced and written hit after hit after hit and filled many a dance floor. He’s got a sound that the young generations of club goers are really digging on. The only Prince songs getting played at the clubs are the ones from 1996 and before. Trust, if Prince wants to remain relevant to today’s young generation, he needs to tap into the creative flow that Will.I.Am and other producers of today are feeling and creating. It’s one thing to see Prince during his “Welcome 2 America” tour with all his energy and talent. It’s quite another to hear Prince’s recent records. Just not the same. Not feeling Prince’s production/arrangement/songwriting style like I used to. Could it be his immersion in the Jehovah’s Witness faith? Could it be he’s gotten older, wiser and just doesn’t have the hunger he did back in the 80s/90s? It’s probably a combination of many factors.

The beginning sounds like high schoolers learning how to play the guitar. The single worst song I have ever heard Prince officially release to the public. Don’t ever want to hear it again. C’mon P. Start thinking with your brain and not your ****.

@ Myles Matisse – My guess is he likes hearing them sing so-called Baby making music but I doubt anyone got pregnant listening to Bria or Tamar’s music he produced. I’m wondering why he had both Tamar and then Bria sing Kept Woman? Hope Andy Allo doesn’t cover it for the third time.

I’m wondering why when Prince gets involved with embracing and making music for up and coming artists like Bria Valente and Tamar Davis that most of the songs have to be so down tempo, mellow and soulful? While their CDs have great moments, I couldn’t help but notice that Tamar’s had a “Emancipation” style production/arrangement vibe to it. Personally, I think the album should have had more “Redhead Stepchild” and “Holla & Shout” although I’m not too down with the instrumentation/production sound on Holla. It sure ain’t got no David Guetta, floor filling kinda vibe going. Don’t know if Prince even has it in him to get to the bottom, booty shaking quality of a Guetta production. Never have really heard him go there. And, while Bria Valente’s album (which was actually released unlike Tamar’s Prince collaboration) has a more polished sound to the songs, with only ONE uptempo track “2Nite” on there, it left friends of mine (and me) kinda mystified at the intense balladry of the entire disc. With someone like Prince who’s created dozens of uptempo masterpieces, it’s more than disappointing when he only writes “2Nite” on Bria’s disc, deciding to write ballads for all the other jams. C’MON!!!! One friend who has loved Prince’s music going back to Jill Jones, Sheila E. and Vanity 6 called it a snoozefest. However, another friend who was super close to the Prince camp a decade ago said he knew Bria and that she prefers slower jams. As we all know, Bria’s album “Elixer” just didn’t sell much. It didn’t help that it was attached to two other Prince records in the “Lotusflow3r” release. Oops. Talk about lost in the shuffle. While Prince picks great singers and potential female artists to collaborate with, I’d LOVE to see him go the way of the kinds of hit songs Estelle, Rihanna, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Wynter Gordon, Fergie and Kelis have released and filled floors with at all the clubs I go to and DJ at. To me, it’s inexcusable and the worst nightmare when an artist of the calibre of Prince can’t fill the dance floors with NEW songs he’s made for all the most recent female artists (Bria, Tamar) he’s hooked up with. To me, it clearly reveals his limitations as a producer. David Guetta, Stuart Price and Will.I.Am he ain’t. And, if you’d asked me 20 years ago if that’d be the case, I’d think you crazy. To me, the kinder, gentler and Jehovahs Witness era Prince hasn’t been kind to his inner musical soul. And, while that’s his decision, it’s disheartening to me that he’s unable to write gems of the calibre of “Gett Off”, “Controversy”, “1999”, “Baby, I’m a Star”, “Nasty Girl”, “Glamorous Life”, “Dance Electric”, and countless more masterpieces he wrote, produced and arranged in the past. Makes me wanna cry funky tears just thinking about it. 🙁

I don’t contradict myself, Prince contradicts himself. I think he realizes many of his critical hardcore fans know his schtick but the upcoming dancer or singer’s fans don’t know. I bet he knows when he does his usual schtick many of his fans will come to message boards yelling at other fans while claiming to KNOW what HE cares about, thinks, or doesn’t have to do. He probably depends on people like you to help keep the controversy going. I agree with you that Prince has the weirdest fans. I guess some of us are weird like him. Prince don’t have to care what I or anyone else thinks but I think he does. Many fans don’t have to care if he’s dating or in love with the latest dancer or singer he’s attached his name to but they do. It’s been a big part of his whole act. If Misty or Andy’s fans weren’t into Prince I guess he thinks it’s beneficial for him (and Misty or Andy) if these new fans think Prince is in love. There is nothing interesting in old man romantically pursuing very young women. IMHO it’s actually perverted, unbalanced, and says alot about Prince.

IDK why you bother either. It’s just music and his latest gimmick. No need to get worked up over what another fans has to say. It’s only one person’s opinion.

He knows u know his schtick thats why he does it cos he CAN! He don’t care what u think. You contradict your self tho sayin he attaches his name to up n coming singers but at the same people mostly pay to see HIM They do pay to see him w/or with out Allo, Spalding, Monet ect, He also does what he enjoys just cuz u don’t or do I guess, he just has the weirdest fans ever idk it’s late why I’m even bothering idk me sleepy GOODNIGHT!

Andy Allo is a talented actress and singer although I wish someone else was helping her gain more exposure. It seems like Prince chooses to help new artists and gives his extra attention to pretty young women because it helps him and his princely image. I don’t think the new artist are successful in the long run because of him. I think Andy was on her way to the top simply because she has what it takes. Same with Janelle Monet and Esperanza Spalding. Prince is the superstar who jumped on their bandwagon because it helps keep him in the public eye. He knows how to get his gullible fans to argue and speculate in his defense. It’s all publicity. If Prince didn’t try so hard to make people think he’s in a romantic relationship with every young woman he works with I don’t think people would make as many negative comments about him, Andy, or any woman he’s seen out with but he likes to insinuate there’s something more going on, knowing it causes many of his hardcore women fans to become jealous. I think he gets off reading their comments. But when certain fans call him out on it he tells them to stop analying everything he does and get their own life. I heard he actually said this in Italy on July 15th. He can’t have it both ways. If Prince doesn’t want the negative comments he shouldn’t have his people send Serpan99, the messenger, all those supersized pictures to insure his fans notice the tiny heart he had drawn on his ring finger. Then when fans notice it and make so-called negative comments he gives them the finger.

Whoever believes Prince doesn’t need to tour or doesn’t need our money is foolish and Prince should remember this before he slyly gives his middle finger again. Many of us have grown tired of his usual schtick. I’m not hating. I’m giving constructive criticism. I agree with Myles, 20TEN is not a bad album but after all the years Prince has been in the business he doesn’t seem to be growing. It’s like he only puts a cd out so he can get paid up front. He’s constantly attaching his name to some upcoming singer so he can invite them to perform with him. He’s like an old music industry pimp. I think he knows his music and personal life are not as interesting as it use to be. I agree it should be all about the music but Prince’s actions are contradicting. It’s good he lets others share the stage with him yet they don’t need to sings so much when people mostly pay to see Prince perform. I don’t have 20TEN and I don’t care if he releases another cd if he keeps refusing to take heed and grow up. Prince should take his own advice and get a life outside of being the mysterious music man doing the same old same old.

This comment get deleted, but I am tired of Prince’s obsession with talentless mulatto women. This new chick, Andy-what’s-her-face, with the Afro, sings like a frightened mouse and she has the stage presence of burned out light bulb.

Prince’s career will never be reignited, because he is unwilling to grow as a person. Over the years, Prince went from being a musical innovator to a played out quasi drag queen who plays guitar.

Nobody’s “hating” on 20Ten. As a fan of Prince’s music since 1980 and a DJ since 1988 and someone that has every single official release Prince has ever made and has listened to it all many, many times, to me, 20Ten does NOT compare with the albums “For You”, “Prince”, “Dirty Mind”, “Controversy”, “1999”, “Purple Rain” “Sign O’ The Times”, “Lovesexy”, “Diamonds & Pearls”, “The Symbol Album” or “The Gold Experience”. While I don’t expect him to recreate his past in the same way, if you listen to all those past albums and 20Ten side by side, there’s just really no comparison. Everyone can try and justify all they want the relevancy and genius of “20Ten”. While it’s not a bad album, it just doesn’t have the genius factor of all those previous releases. To ME, anyway. So, I’m not “hating” on “20Ten”, I just expected a lot more from an artist who’s been around and created as many masterpieces as Prince has.

Don’t think it’s a new album. As for L/C. Who knows. As for Prince saying he’s not recording new material or a new album, I think he’ll record new stuff. He just won’t release it. It’ll be added to the thousands of unreleased songs already in his vaults, which will all get released one day by his estate when he passes away. Me personally? If Prince doesn’t want to release new music, I respect that. Don’t need to be selfish, now. I’ve got all the music he’s already released. I’m satisfied with that. He had a good run. The fact he’s playing live and traveling the world, playing his music LIVE for everyone to hear and be moved is the most important thing he should be doing now. Trust. Do we really need another “20Ten”? If you compare that release to much of his earlier stuff. My answer? No.

Hmm.. “Love Conquers” All-o.. lol. I don’t know what L/C could stand 4…who knows with Prince. I liked the “Guitar” jam session of the two of them. Just hope a Prince album will come out soon and he starts a tour again in the States. I thought her Facebook pic was interesting, she has a heart on her ring finger. It looked like Prince might have had one on his ring finger when he played live with her on the Le Live Du Grand Journal.
