Here is the latest rehearsal jam from PRINCE & THE NPG. We have been waiting to share this with you and now, we finally can!!
As we first told you about late last week, this is Prince’s musical response to Terry Lewis asking if Prince needed an opening act for his upcoming Australian Tour and was also sent to Paul Peterson of Fdeluxe (Formerly The Family) before anyone else.
We promised you that it is hot, funky, dirty, and will leave you in puddle of sweat.

As we said over the weekend, Janelle Monae and Deliah are possible opening acts for Prince’s “Welcome 2 Australia” leg of the tour. Will anyone else be coming along?

Remaking them, like Large Room or Extralovable, equals killing them (no, not in the american way of speaking, but in a negative way). The old unreleased versions are of your finest work. Better leave them as they were intended to be, poor audio quality and all, then releasing a mockery. To release a rehearsel like today is fine, as long as it doesn’t get to replace anything original. Thanks for the good work!

But you know, since I heard this song when I was 12 or 13 (something like that) I have LOVED this song.
In fact; most recently I was in Minnesota at “The Revolution” event, which was simply a wonderful event that BobbyZ and the gang for the heart charity event (GREAT thing to do for people!).
And this song was played at the Club by DJ Lenka Paris, whom by the way… kicks some freakn Tail on her mixes… I even, yes I even got up and danced…
Point being:
I AM SO DIGGING AND LOVING THIS SONG! This re-do at you… is simply…
ROCKSOLID Lickable Candy!
So… I sure as heck, hope this becomes a purchasable download, as I would be on it like carmel topping to ice cream.

A bit too vegas-y. A bit plastic.
The synthesisers need tweaking, they’re, to be fair, cheesy. Can’t hear the bass either. It sounds a bit like background music to a TV show.
These latest jams need more oomph!
But thanks for sharing, much appreciated.
My final thought is that Prince should think forwards not backwards and give us something new and not 80’s sounding. Something fresh that maintains his creativity and musicianship.

Posted at 06:59h, 23 AprilWhat is the point of this dull, boring, rather soulless funk free excursion? Prince, man you know you can do better than this. Put the bass back in and tell Morris to be a bit more creative on the keys. I remember you saying during a rehearsal back during the Purple Rain tour that the band sounded like it was playing a Holiday Inn. This wasn’t even Holiday Inn, this is more like the house band for Ernie and Louann’s Big Fish Lake Resort, Nimrod, MN.

They seemed to think he was giving them a song, or inviting them to open for him in Australia or something, but it appears he’s just trying to tell them that he’s playing his songs and better than them & the O7. (Though, from this, that is debatable.)

Posted at 05:33h, 23 AprilThe instrumentation is tight but vocal wise it’s a little flat (yes, I understand it’s a rehearsal.) It’s cool none the less though that we are getting a listen! Also sorry, but I do agree in that if I wanted to hear Shelby J., I’d go to the ‘wrecka stow’ and look for her album… 😉

Posted at 05:29h, 23 AprilYeah. It’s all right. The fact that this is the way an adult addresses former business associates is really messed up. Kind of high school. I’m sure Prince doesn’t care (cause he doesn’t seem to care about much) but he comes off as pathetic.

This is too bad to be even called a ‘Las Vegas 3rd class act’.
