Jam Of The Week: “Screwdriver” By PRINCE; Going For Radio Ads Next Week
Our Jam Of The Week is "Screwdriver" by PRINCE featuring Hannah Ford, Donna Grantis, and Ida Neilsen. The song will be going for ads on radio overseas as Purple Music will be distributing the single.
UPDATE: Purple Music advised the single will be released digitally Feb. 4th on all known online stores.
U can purchase the song NOW on AMAZON, ITUNES, and PURPLE MUSIC,
Purple Music will let us know the release date and formats (picture disc) but advised it will be soon. Check out their fan page on Facebook. UPDATE: Purple Music adv will be a digital release only at this time...
"Screwdriver" debuted on PRINCE's new web site earlier this week with much fanfare. The web site 20PR1NC3.com debuted with an announcement by Billboard Magazine.
It has been a busy month for the music legend as several songs and videos of his have been put out by a twitter account with the handle of 3rdEyeGirl including "Chapter & Verse" which is a sound board recording from PRINCE's 6 sold out shows at the Dakota Jazz Club in his hometown of Minnesota.
If January is any indication of what 2013 has in store for PRINCE (Pr1NC3) fans, then it is going to be BIG! Along with the new web site and the Billboard cover, PRINCE will be receiving the Icon Award at this Year's Billboard Awards May 19th and will be attending a tribute in his honor at Carnegie Hall in March which is being put together by Questlove of The Roots.
"Screwdriver" is a rock number that we cannot wait to hear live. It is great that it will be getting played on radio stations overseas and getting a release over there. Here is hoping that a US distributor will step up to the plate soon that would enable the song to get radio play and a proper release out here.
Along with those hopes, why do I envision him going on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" soon and ripping this song to shreds right in front of Questlove? Oh well. A Doc can dream.
Thank you Jamie for the updated cover.
Enjoy the Jam Of The Week, PRINCE's "Screwdriver"!!!-DocFB

I don’t do digital downloads either. I want this song and the upcoming “album” to be released in a physical format.
I can’t believe I have to worry whether a new release from a classic artist will or will not be released in a physical format.
PHYSICAL MEDIA FOREVER!! Screw the MP3!!

So spoiled. This is a cool tune and i like it but…. I was at the Friday show in Minneapolis where he played this live for the first time and it was freakin awesome live!!! My god it was awesome. As cool as this is…when he brings it live…duck for cover.

This song is great, it’s real rock’n roll. Also, I agree with JJ-77′s comments. And Purple Music shouldn’t be so touchy. Prince fans have opinions, it’s feedback. Purple Music can use it or not, but shouldn’t lecture back. Doesn’t look good.
Let’s hope Screwdriver doesn’t get “screwed up”. LOL

If you want to read real comments on the release of “Screwdriver”, the Facebook page of Purple Music is not the place to go to. I also posted my previous comment there and they removed it as soon as possible.

Ever since “When Doves Cry” was released in 1984 I have bought every Prince single and album as soon as they were released. I still haven’t bought “Rock And Roll Love Affair” because of the Jamie Lewis remixes. I guess that says it all. After listening to them on Dr. Funkenberry’s page for about half a minute, I actually thought my ears would start bleeding. I’ll have to buy the “Rock And Roll Love Affair” single some day, cuz my collection “demands” it. I simply can not NOT buy a Prince single. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the rehearsal version of Screwdriver on the new single and some remixes by Prince himself, instead of more awful dance remixes that make your ears bleed.

With that being said… Prince, Screw Driver is a classic ass song!! One of the best songs I’ve heard in a while… I love the rawness of it! A little bit of rock, punk, pop and soul… just don’t allow “others” to mess it up with casio-beat remixes!!!
January 28th, 2013 - 06:05
No offense to Purple Music, but RNR Love Affair was perfect by itself. The remixes left a lot to be desired. You must remember that many Prince fans are older than 18 and want good music that will stick with you, not something you’ll forget as the cd changes to the next remix.
I agree with what JJ-77 said in most part… and I think that attacking fans is not a good idea, that is where respect goes both ways. We’re getting left behind in the United States as far as physical cd’s go unless we want to pay a lot of money for a Purple Music release that has one good song on it… nothing against these casio pre-made remix jams, but some of us may be disabled and can’t dance, but do like to listen to good music that hits the soul, not just the feet.

Purple music have done an outstanding job on getting Prince on the radio in Europe, which is no mean feat considering they are small label. I’m glad to have the new music in physical format and if the remixes are part of deal, one can always buy it for what they wish to hear, there is a skip button that can be used for what’s not to your taste.
Purple music or Doc please try to convince the boss to put the live version of Screwdriver on the single too.

sorry! of course i don’t wan to be disrespectful to purplemusic itself, they (you) are for your target audience (teenies) quite good.
but poeple like me care about the complete works (catalogue) of princes music. where the Jamie Lewis remixes doesn’t fit in.
i’m not a teenie who don’t care, i’m 45 and interested to music, not short life trends. i feel no excitement and the remixes will be forgotten after 1st listen.
if they (you) would produce formidable multifaceted funky adult music a.k.a typical prince music (and not interchangeable strings of monotone computer loops created on a laptop in the forrest [as we can see in the "Prince meets Jamie Lewis" youtube video]) like we know from the B-sides of the golden 80′s & 90′s … i and many other fans would listen it more than once.
I life 40 minutes from your “sunny hill” (ja i de schwiiz) so if you like to hear a objective, constructive and fair adult opinion, invite me before you release the remixes
and/or: may i recommend to you to listen things like the Batman-, Thieves in the Temple-, Glam Slam-, My Name is Prince-, Good Life- and other remixes. after then you know what i mean.
i mean: the Kiddies stuff is not cool in five years anymore, and ail never be music history. but the old B-sides are after 15-20 years still nice to listen – conclusion you should do something more timeless.
2. the (quality issue) cardboard sleeves are destroyed after removing the price sticker (other price stickers from the same store don’t destroy the sleeve) . . . and from the collectors view i consider this as “un-collectible”

Hey JJ-77,
we do release Vinyl & Cds you should better inform yourself before you become offensive and learn to be respectful.

Dear Prince: I don’t buy digital formats, i like to have physical releases like CD & Vinyl.
But please stop the collaboration with this horrible “purple music” Jamie Lewis kiddies DJ in Switzerland – they destroy with awful dance club remixes and bad quality releases your work…
example: the 3rdEyeGirl version of “Rock And Roll Love Affair – Remix 7″ is much better than the purple music ones
thank you

Hi Prince, What’s up dude! I’m really loving all this good news. I will be there at Paisley Park come this Springtime. I have a couple of things to do in the meantime. I imagine I could use some Princely website help with the ticket and price. Of course, I will fly out to MPLS. Also, I would LOVE to go on a World Tour with you!!! I have been thinking about you ALOT. I can’t have a hug unless I get a kiss. CC indeed. LOL I LOVE YOU immensely.

This is good but this MUST be put on American radio stations too. The song is out and has been mentioned on American radio station websites and Prince needs to strike while the pot is hot. This song would do well here. I hope Prince doesn’t just focus on the Overseas market with this song. Find an American label that cab get Prince back on the radio in the U.S. Screwdriver is too good to let die. But then again, this is Prince we’re talking about here. Fingers crossed anyway.

So cool to hear he is going to be attending the Carnegie tribute… Hope he plans to “screw” NYC a lil while in town

That would be cool if Prince performed on Jimmy Fallon’s show! We can dream…can’t we?lol! I totally dig Screwdriver! Prince is the man!
